Would this 1948 Ford Convertible barn find be TRaKable? I weathered it king of like B's build.

Nice weathering - But apart from the seemingly chopped windshield, there doesn't seem to be anything Rod or Custom about it?

It already has a chopped wind shield. All you have to do is gut the interior, strip and repaint, tear out the engine and replace with a hopped up V 8, replace the wheels and tires and get everything re-chromed. Not much else:) I see potential.

The thing about barn finds is the time lines. In '69(the cut off date here), would the car be in that shape? I really like the weathering. But, I'm not sure it would fit in the time line here. Tough call that I can't make myself.

.... slap a pair of Strombergs, some bubble skirts, & twice pipes on that baby ( you may wanna throw a tarp over the interior), and it's not just an old car in the barn, but a bonefied old hot rod!...btw nice barn!

Tough call that I can't make myself. If the barn was next to the ocean say in Half Moon Bay CA it could almost weather that much in 20 years. ...

It's a fine line--I think in order for a "barn-find" build to fit here, it needs to either be a period competition car that clearly fits the rules/appropriate time period, or something that reads very clearly as a rod or custom. This build is neat...but it also looks fairly stock, other than the chopped windshield.
I say this just because it's a short step to go from this to "running/driving barn find" and a short hop from that to "crusty because it looks cool rat rod", and rats aren't the goal of TRAK.

That actually looks a lot like a chicken-barn car...boy those things get crusted up! All you need now is some shredded stuffing in the interior where the varmints have been nesting

hmmm..let's see here. We don't know what MIGHT be under that hood to say HOT ROD. As a LOT of TRAKABLE cars back in the day had only steel wheels and were very low buck...this guy at least chopped the windshield! So..TRAK ON my friend! Again..getting tired of nit pickers. This is not military modeling! (he said with a slight grin)

Glad a few are enjoying it. Like I said, allot of Barn Find cars turn into awesome Period correct Hot Rods and Customs. Now I've at least found it:)

As a LOT of TRAKABLE cars back in the day had only steel wheels and were very low buck...this guy at least chopped the windshield! So..TRAK ON my friend! Again..getting tired of nit pickers. This is not military modeling! (he said with a slight grin) ...And now we're down to hypothetical engine options - Isn't this thing getting pretty far fetched? This place is a special interest forum, focusing on Traditional Hot Rods, Customs/ Kustoms, and Drag Cars. Thus we have made some basic guidelines to keep the forum content somewhat focused and manageable. Since the forum was founded, we've had numerous discussions about what's " TRaK'able" and what's not. Over the course of time, some members have become upset or felt offended (either on their own- or on other members' behalf) when models were deemed "not TRaK'able" - Some even taking it very personal. I would like to emphasize, that we - the moderators - have absolutely no intention of picking on anyone. Model car building is a hobby and, as such, has to be enjoyable and fun. As mentioned above, this is a special interest forum with a clearly defined scope, so you'd think that drawing the line would be easy. However the subject matter used to and still involves a great deal of individualism from the builders. Thus the question of "TRaK'ability" isn't a matter of determining whether a model has been cobbled together from parts that were individually available before 1969, but whether the (Rod/Custom/Drag) model as an entity looks period correct - In other words: It's all about context!!! This forum is not about rat rods, showroom stockers, daily drivers, beaters, barn finds, or light commercial vehicles in general. However the lines are somewhat blurred by what people actually built and drove in real life: Yes, many cars were (and still are) fitted with a larger carburettor and a dual exhaust system - No, that doesn't necessarily make it a (traditional) Hot Rod or Custom. Glad a few are enjoying it. Like I said, allot of Barn Find cars turn into awesome Period correct Hot Rods and Customs. Now I've at least found it:)
It's certainly not that anyone doesn't appreciate your great work of weathering this model kit. The fact that many rods and customs were built from barn finds, just doesn't automatically qualify weathered cars as TRaK'able on their own (By that logic, any showroom stock vehicle manufactured whithin the prescribed time frame would be as well). Like I said above, it's all a matter of context: Place the car in a more comprehensive diorama with the young hot-rodder hauling his new-found jewel from the field with a tow rig or working on the engine in his garage with a few period correct hop up items spread across the workbench, and it's perfectly fine!

... me too Bruce!.... I try to only buy old cars with local rust on 'em! Yeah, when I lived there I always looked for old cars around 47th and Taraval. LOL! (Just did a Google Maps street tour of the area. Sure has become gentrified since I lived there.)
