Great project, Craig, I'll be following this one! I need a stock height roof section plus the chopped one, I assume these are available from Altered States? I checked their website but didn't see them listed. I've got a '30 coupe project that requires a stock height roof.

Fun stuff Thanks everyone for the positive comments. I've been spending my spare time building a new work bench, which is very close to being finished. once that is done then I'll be hitting this coupe hard.

Now that my new bench is done I'm back at this A coupe. Solved my head dilemma. Went back to the handy Hot Rod Flathead articles by Tim Boyd in Scale Auto. Noticed that the 91 and newer issues of the AMT 49 Merc had Offy heads in them. Boom, matching heads for my intake. I am modifying them to a center port setup for the cooling hoses instead of the front outlet. Also found a really sweet oil filter in my parts box. Got the front suspension finalized by using the split bones from the 30 A kit. Now there's just a few things left to mock up, do a little body work, and she'll be ready for paint!

Finally got to tackle the last of the fabrication. The rear wishbone was hitting the frame, so I removed a section of the frame on each side for clearance(see shaded areas). I also mounted the friction shocks. Then I tackled the steering. I took the steering box from the 40 Ford I've been stealing so many parts for this build from. I created a bracket from Evergreen by drilling a hole for the box to mount through, and rounded off the top. Then I glued it right in the crux of where the x frame meets the frame rail. I then drilled a hole into the steering box to allow me to pin the steering arm to the box. I'll create the connecting rod out of wire during final assembly. Lastly, I got the roof permanently mounted to the body and did the little bit of bodywork. I also filled all the unnecessary holes in the floorboard. Shot some primer, and couldn't help myself with a min-mockup. Still throwing around paint colors, but I'm leaning towards a dark charcoal grey.

Very nice. Are you going to shorten the rear wishbones?

Very nice. Are you going to shorten the rear wishbones? Wasn't really planning on it... Fair enough. I only asked because normally they'd be attached to the torque tube, which is now shorter to fit the '29 chassis. [/rivet counting]

Coming together, Craig! Nice work on the steering setup.
Regarding the rear radius rods. In the full scale hot rod world when using a '40 rear in an A - '34 Chassis ('37-'40 rear axle is the same) the LOOOONG '40 radius rods get replaced with '42-'48 rods which are substantially shorter but attach to the axle housing the same way. There is a bung on the torque tube that must be cut free and welded further back. Otherwise, it's an easy swap and then the forward attachment point of the rods doesn't interfere with the center of the frame. If you go into my '33 Panel thread here (just started a couple days ago) you can see that I'm using a Revell '40 Coupe rear and Revell '48 Convertible/Coupe/Woody radius rods/spring. Some slight tweaking is needed to mate the two together but it solves the interference problem.
