I got this 59 Buick from Bob Black a couple of weeks ago, and it's in very fine condition. Thanks Bob for passing this one on to me! Of course it previously had the kit skirts on it , but the glue damage was minimal and easy to repair. It also had windshield post mounted spotlights and at least one antenna glued to the rear fender, again easy repairs. John Goshke has mentioned the decklid and rear fender top sink marks on his 59, and of course these needed work too. I've filled in the rear fender trim along with the usual shave of trim etc.. I want to give John Goshke credit for the inspiration of the rear fender modification, which I loved and watched intently as he showed his progress with his 59 Invicta. Here are some pictures of it from Bob as I received it. Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiAnd a few pictures of my progress. It still needs a bit of altitude attention in the front. Oh, and I've broken the left rear window post. Not once, but twice! Both times right near the top, and the second time a small piece broke loose and is now glued in. Great start, Gary! The wheel openings receive the Froghawk Customs Seal of Approval! The new wheel covers are pretty cool, too, though Starbird's car on the HRM cover makes a great argument for Dodge Lancers, and maybe a slick chick to go with it. Sucks about the roof pillar, that's a very fragile area on these cars as it is on similar late '50s Mopars (ask me how I know.)
Will be watching with great interest to see where you go with this one!

Once again I think John & Bob for the inspiration and the kit Without those two this model wouldn't be here. The color is Tamiya Light Blue Pearl over white primer, and then a few coats of their clear. The first picture was taken outside and looks pretty close. Hosted on FotkiAnd this one on my bench. I guess these wheel covers are the ones I'll be using, but I was going to use 53 Buick wires. I think somebody else used those on a similar model! My rocker molding and front and rear wheel openings will have chrome trim as well as the nose and body sides. OMG those thin side spears! Hosted on Fotki

Gary, What a Swell Color! Those wheel-covers really set things off as well. Great job on the bodywork and restoration. Who would have thunk a '59 Buick could look so good, me that is! I'm not a huge fan of the Big Buicks and Pontiacs from like '58 thru '62ish but this kind of changes my mind. Still, I like what you've done with this old girl!
Is it an optical illusion or just the angle the pictures were taken that the hood area looks like it is warped upward? I know it has to be, because the rest of the body is laser straight!

Well now, the hood does bulge up in the pictures, so either it was like this from the get-go or in 64 years some warpage may occur. Gary
