A little story to go with this one...I work for a rod shop/street rod parts supplier. We go to a couple out of town NSRA shows to vend. Our second show of the year is the NSRA Springfield, MO show. I'd never been before (just got through my first year with this company) and on the first day of the show (Friday), I found out they had a model contest. I couldn't resist not having SOMETHING to show, after all I didn't want to be there (to work) but I might as well have some fun. So at the show Friday I picked up a Beatnik Bandit kit. After the show was over, we made a run to Hobby Lobby. I picked up some supplies and an AMT '32 5-window kit. We got some dinner and I headed back to the hotel for some kit bashing. I was up until about 11:00pm putting this together. I didn't think it was all that great, but it was still fun. Took it to the show Saturday morning. Worked the show all day and then Sunday. The show was almost over and I went to pick the model back up. I was blown away when I won a "dirty dozen" (top 12) pick, and even more so when I saw they awarded me "Best in Show!" It really made my weekend. Just goes to show you don't have to spend countless hours on something to get some satisfaction out of it. I thought about making it nicer, doing a black wash on the grill, painting the door handles, adding some tail lights, etc. but decided to leave it as is.

Very cool, what kits did the tire/wheels come from? Charles

The wheels, tires, engine/trans., and steering wheel are all from the Beatnik Bandit kit. Everything else is from the AMT 5-window.

I remember seeing this on on the HAMB. There is no way I could build something like that in 5 hours let alone win awards for it. Great job!

Neat story. Great build. I try to keep build times down, but I have yet to succeed. Thanks for the inspiration.

5 hours?? I would still be working on the motor after 5 hours LOL. Excellent build, but when you take in the fact of the time spent, where it was built and everything else that is just unreal. And as for adding the little extras you mentioned...............I wouldn't do it, leave it as is and keep the awards with it.

Too Kool! Good story, nice history, and awards to show for it? Man, ya' can't really get any better than that! Great example of keepin' a build simple, yet tasteful, and not sweatin' the details for days. Great job buddy! Congratulations!
