Okay... so we all know the cut off date is 1969 for TRAK-able stuff, right?
BUT... Theoretically, at least, there could have been custom 1970 model year cars rolling around late in 1969. A guy buys, say, a '70 Buick Wildcat brand new in September of '69, and has it lowered on some Astro Supremes before he even gets the payment book.
So, I guess my question is, did I just stumble on a loophole? Could a 1970 model year vehicle be TRAK material?

While technically possible, I think it's pushing the rules too far...
I think a lot of stuff has been allowed to slide by lately (e.g. classic wheel designs in "modern dimensions") Heck, I even have rod projects composed of 110% TRaK'able parts, that I haven't posted bescause I feel the overall look and feel them is just too modern...

What if a guy got into a time capsule and went back to 1967 with his Iroc Z?

Also, even some pre-70 muscle cars aren't TRAKable.

All I have to say is, it's been 1969 since the opening of this forum and it's not going to change. 1965 is the REAL cut off for "traditional"....but I thought it would be nice to stretch it 4 years for "modeling sake".

Would this be TRaKable? What if a guy had a 29 roadster done up in a late 50's custom style but then a secret government scientist developed a high tech alternater that actually wouldn't have been produced until 1997 because it was soo advanced but put his one proto type on the 50's roadster? Oh ya, and it's a magical alternater that can turn small farm animals into unicorns.
Sorry , I'm just having fun. I think we all get the general idea of what is TRaKable. If anybody isn't sure, maybe they should look at some period photos from the 50's to mid 60's of hot rods, drag cars , customs and salt lake racers. I think most members know about what year of car would work , it's just a matter of getting the feel for the details. Although Crager rims on a Willys may not be hot rod material to some I think Bob is okay with it because it is technically period correct provided of coarse the paint and engine etc. are in keeping with the period. Am I right?

You are right and I am sure there were a lot of Willys with Cragars too.

I agree... I have a kind of wicked project going on now. It is a very weathered Citroën body (think old wreck found somewhere in the forest) that is getting lowered, a custom flake vinyl/angel hair interior, mostly original technically, it will maybe even get some TRAKable rims... Theoretically, there is nothing that says that it couldn't have been built in 1969, even years before that... ...but if you ask me, there's absolutely nothing traditional about a build like that... Also, even most 1969 cars (IMO) does look a bit too new-ish for the traditional custom style, sure, cars that had been around for some years, like the Corvair, may work. But the cars that were new by then...nah. And it wasn't better by 1970... A TRAKable Maverick? A TRAKable 1970 Cuda? A TRAKable Datsun 240Z? Well, in my eyes it simply doesn't work... I'm no rivet counter, and I don't dislike cars built after 1969, heck, one of my current model projects are a CJ7 Jeep (early 80s probably) and the last one I finished before the Impala was a Datsun 280ZX... But I can't really see the point of trying to stretch the rules too far just for the sake of stretching.

Other than the semi and trailer sitting here that I am selling, a new charger kit that was a gift from Bruce Owen, a '32 Roadster that has way too many street rod parts, a 70 GTX that is more of a "dare" and a 70 Impala that is for a build I got involved in awhile back.......there is nothing sitting here that I can't post on this forum. I like it that way too. I agree...

I've got projects that are 10,000% Trakable!!!! (Caveat- I suck at math.) Well, you guys win this time! I'm sure I'll find another rule to try and stretch soon enough!!!!

Rodburner wins EVERY time! He's the boss! TRYING to stretch the rules won't work. If you want to do that, the Drastic Plastics forum is the place to do that, but not here.
That in no way means your models won't be cool, but here is not the place for pushing the envelope.

The thing is I WANT to see early hot rods etc. Old school is mostly my thing. There are other sites I can go to if I want to see drag cars but I wasn't happy with the way the forums were ran. So as long as drag and salt lake cars are welcome here , I'll just keep popping in. This place has a decent feel to it. Bob has particular subject matter he has chosen for his site but he is not a model nazi like I've seen else where.
Chuck you build some pretty interesting rigs. Specially your snow plow and ice mobile. But I can see those on MCM.
I'm actually in the mood to build a muscle car for a change. But I know there are a whole bunch of other forums where I can display it.
