That's true. However, he could always make some kind of cap for the front wheels, some sprue and BMF should be all that's needed.
BTW, I've spent a bit of time reading magazines from 1968-69 (and 1970, but keep in mind, many of the pictures there may have been taken in 1969) and I've seen a lot of RWL tyres and some slot mags (unfortunately not combined together on any of those pictures but does that really matter, it still could have been done and probably was).
My guess is that you would have probably had a greater chance to see a hot rod Model A with slot mags and RWL tyres in 1969, than a VolksRod or truckster...not to blame those builds, but they have been allowed since "they could have been done", sure they could but was they? I can't recall that I've heard of many of those that was built until late 90s or even early 2000s?
Things doesn't stop being popular over a night, if something was quite new and hot stuff in 1969, of course it didn't go out of fashion because 1969 turned into 1970? It is 2011 now and even if we're into a new decade, what was hot in 2009 aren't out of fashion today. Such things are gradually changing...
I'd say that the slots and RWLs are also much more period correct for a late 60s build than steelies and wide whites would be... OK, steelies are quite timeless, but wide whites were really "out" in the late 60s, people that still had good tyres with wide whites by then started turning them inwards to make the cars look more modern, according to people that was around back then (I was not, so still take my opinions with a grain of salt).
I'm not the one that should decide, but I'm still feel like I have some input to give, and do what you want with it, but I don't think that it is a really good evolution of this board if some peoples personal taste should be more important in deciding what's allowed and not, than it is if it actually could have been built back then or not...
