The front tires look a little too wide for '69......more of a '70's trend.................the slicks cut it as they were just getting that wide in '69 and typically showing up on T buckets and deuce roadsters. And, those wheels (Raders) were around and showing up on rods as early as '65 believe it or not! For those nay sayers......here's the proof: Hosted on Fotki

The wheels don't bug me as much as the ford 302 headers on a sbc. lol

just a quick question:when did 4 bar suspensions first used? I don't recall the history of them.

I didn't learn of this until about a month ago myself...when the topic came up on another group......and that scan was posted..........never cared for those wheels either! LOL! I saw similar ones on the McMullin roadster.......hated them even more; but they were around.

David; Unfortunately yes, it has too much of a 70-80's vibe (Mainly due to the choice of tires) Bill; trakinscale.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=as&action=display&thread=10274

I personally think it should be allowed. Take a look at the vintage photos in the September 2010 issue of Hot Rod magazine, those rods have wide tires and huge slicks just like just like the ones on David's sedan. The pictures all date from '65-'67. Not allowing this build to be posted would be total BS. Also, about the 4 bar, Ed Roth's Outlaw had a 4 bar and it was built in the late '50's. The Ram Charger's High&Mighty Plymouth had a home built 4 bar rear, it was also built in the late '50s. I think this build is totally TRaK-able. Wicked build David!

Aren't those rims and tires off of the Tom Daniel Tijuan Taxi, and that kit is from 1969

Aaron, thanks for the 4-bar info. After I asked the question I found a ref to the Outlaw, but didn't know about the High and Mighty which was a wild beast of a car.

Other early icons that ran 4-bars include Norm Grabowski's "Kookie" car & Tommy Ivo's T-bucket, along with many others. Even tho I prefer the narrow bias-ply look in tires myself, when I look at my old mid to late '60's rod magazines I see that tires were getting pretty fat by then, explains why we find these tires (that we think of as SO- "'70's") in so many model kits of that era, even in original issues and on box art from the late '60's. If we hate these tires so much maybe we need to change the rules, other wise I say we gotta allow them, they were there in the day, there's lots of photografic proof.

Isn't that wheel and tire combo in the classic Revellogram '55 Chevy "Bad Man" kit?
