Is this okay??? I think the wheels and the cartoonish large back tires were maybe not TRaKable??? I am unsure of the original box art issued date if it was pre 69. Let me know!!

I always thought they really screwed the pooch on the wheels. They don't allow you to do the box art any justice. I don't know when the original came out...but here is the kit number and the box looked the same. I want to say late 60s to mid 70s? I don't know to be honest. I think the 225 was the price of the kit.

I'm pretty sure this kit was around in '68-'69, with the ugly tires added later, it's one of the last kits I remember having when I left the hobby in my mid-late teens. I don't think I ever finished it, tho I loved the Art. It does seem to represent an early funny car fairly well, But some of the other brotheren here, would know better than me. I agree with Bob on the Wheels they're just Ugly, But not hard to change.

Let me be the first to correct myself. The kit I had in the late 60's must have been the Trophy series '53 Stude with the 'Mr. Speed' racing option, I remember those decals, I believe it was the same as the 'Double Whammy' in all ways except the rear wheels and those BIG slicks, IIRC it had skinny AMT slicks and mags like on the front wheels. I'm told the Dbl...Whmy... art work didn't appear until '70-'71. does anybody else remember this kit from before it changed, as I want to backdate one and would appreciate any info. Thanx

The one I have I got in around 1970 or so, and it came with those huge tires and the inside of the body marked for cutting to get them to fit. It has the AMT 2 piece hard vinyl slicks like the reissue if the L'il Stogie, not the MPC once piece slicks pictured on this one. If I remember correctly, the original Mr. Speed was a bonneville car, so it didnt have slicks.

So then my guess is not TRaKable due to the big tires, I just thought it would be funny to use them and do it up like the box. I can post on the other forum if I can't rock it here, I just dont want to be in "Violation" of teh TRaK code!!

Originally tires were much more sane. I built a 1st or 2nd gen kit in early '70s, targa style top and updated with the then custom bodywork and Datsun 240 Z engine and I.R.S rear end. Low and beautiful.

I remember having one, built stockish painted green with a red interior. The extra Hemi was set on the shelf next to it. This was in 64-65 era. I sure would like to have those custom grill parts shown in the pictures of the early black car on the box. That is one of the few looks that I have seen that don't screw up the car.

I haven't seen an original Mr Speed issue close up but from what I recall the 90's issue of the Studebaker (cal look smooth chopped blue car on the box art) had pretty much everything the Mr Speed issue did except wheels and decals.
Certainly had the double blower, 392 Hemi, clear hood, chopped top and glass and the kustom body options.
