I dig this custom Dyna Flow but loose the side mount spare. The two sets of port holes are cool.

Looks like a flower car. There was a '52-ish Ford in my town that was done the same way, less the cool curved rails.

Creative for sure but kinda reminds me of an old amusement park ride.

Yes and no. A flower car was a luxury type car converted to a really light truck pick up truck type vehicle by a coach builder who also specialized in hearse conversions for the funeral industry here in the States. Flower cars were used to place the floral sprays and other floral arrangements in the back to be hauled in the funeral procession, in a showy way to the cemetery. Normally only used for larger funerals, (another way of grabbing more money for the funeral industry.) Basically their only purpose was to haul flowers to the cemetery, hence the name "Flower Car". Kind of a misnomer, it wasn't a truck/ute and it wasn't exactly a car anymore either.

I dig this custom Dyna Flow but loose the side mount spare. The two sets of port holes are cool.
This pic is from a hemmings article in 2016 that includes many more photos as well as comments:
Hemmings posted that the seller wrote, "I believe this wrecker was custom built in the mid 1950's by a Buick dealership near or in Oakland, CA. The workmanship is superb. The boom actually retracts into the floor of the bed. No this did not start life as a flower car. It has minimal rust on the rear fender and on one wheel arch dog leg. The floors are excellent (no prior patches, etc.). It starts right up and runs well. "

Well that solves that mystery! Thanks for the update on the old Dyna Flow.

Interesting front cover...gear drive? It covers the Supercharger's chain drive, I've heard a couple chain drive set ups running, they have a wicked whirring, hissing sound from the open chain across the gears and the sound of the blower's gears all being telegraphed together, you can hear some of the gear lash when they let off the throttle quickly, where a Gilmer belt muffles some of the gear noise off the blower. They were supposedly pretty low maintenance, until the chain finally began stretching like a timing chain does there was very little that needed to be done to them. I've also never seen one running without the cover over the chain drive. (Without a guard/cover, if the chain broke the flying chain could be lethal if it came loose - Source HRM article). From the pictures that I've seen on the old Hot Rod Magazines, they used either a Timing Chain or Motorcycle Chain - Duplex type Chain to drive the supercharger off of the crank pulley. This is also the same setup that many of the AMT Trophy Series Cars that have a blower motor have, the Blower on the '40 Ford coupe has a chain drive cover.

Thanks for that detailed explanation Skip! Totally forgot about that cover in the '40 kit but for some reason I always thought it was a belt cover. Never even considered a chain drive on these cars.
