Another winner Dennis. I am amazed at how you guys chop tops, and they fit so well Geez, I have big gaps that only bondo can fix.

Hi Dennis,
This is really turning out to be a neat little truck. I thought I liked it better with the stock height roof but now that I see it chopped, it really looks "kool". And I'm with Glenn, how do you guys get the chopped tops to fit so well?

Dennis, Nice chop and the bead along the bottom makes all the difference. Now bring this baby home! ...And I'm with Glenn, how do you guys get the chopped tops to fit so well?... Let me join the chorus of admiration. Guys like Dennis and RRR are the Plastic Masters. When they cut, they cut clean, they cut straight, and they cut only what needs to be cut. If I had to guess they tend to use a knife blade and use a saw far less often than we mere mortals...

Looking really fine! That chop is extra impressive, fits together so nicely. My first impression regarding removing the curve on the lower body would be: "No! Don't do it; it's what makes those cabs so cool!" But I see I was wrong...the unbroken line between the wheels gives it a sense of agility and makes everything look nicely buttoned up, especially with that bead added. As for cutting...I'm guess these guys have a saw with much finer teeth than mine!

Great decisions on body and bed modifications. They really flow together nicely!

Thanks for all of the really positive feedback, guys. This project has gone places that I hadn't intended for it too, in a really good way. The original plan was to throw together a quick & fun truck without fenders. After my pal Jon came and helped chop the top and we talked about other possibilities to help out the lines and keep things flowing front to back I felt it was my duty to see it through and hold nothing back. Plus, I tried some new things in the process (like making the windshield frame.)
I can't take credit for the cuts on the top of this one because it was all Jon's work but as for the general quality of the fit & finish on my projects I would say that it has a lot to do with that I work on these cars and do quality fabrication for a living for the last 15 years, starting when I was 18 working part-time in my Dad's shop then moving up to full time in my early 20's. In my teens my model work was okay, but I screwed up a lot of shit that I tried and became very frustrated with it all. Every once in a while things would work out well but it was usually an accident. The real world hands-on experience has improved my model building big time. Not just with cutting and fitting, but with problem solving too. I noticed immediately when I picked up model rod building again back in 2008 (after about 9 years off) that the process seemed a lot easier than it used to be.

At first I didn't like the cab trimmed along the bottom, but with the half round added it looks great!!

I'd pretty much echo what has been said. Didn't like the chop nor the trimmed bottom of the cab. But as I see this progress and can get a better idea of what you're doing, I must say I really am digging this one! I went back to your first post, and the stock roof and curved cab bottom look sorta dorky. It was fun opening this post in 2 windows, and comparing them!

Looking awesome so far! Nice work on the new frame mods. I'll miss the hemi, but a flathead should look cool too. Are those AMT '57 corvette side pipes going to fit into the mix somewhere??

Thanks, man! Those side pipes are just kind of laying there. I'm going to check in the morning to see if they've migrated any closer to the truck.
