Hi gentlemen, long time no see. After being distracted by non-TRAK builds for the last few months, my friend and fellow TRAK member Tyler suggested we swap a couple kits, build them up and send them back home again. Great idea! So, I stole from his stash an AMT 1950 Chevy truck kit. I've never built this kit, but have always been tempted to pick one up. This was the ideal opportunity to try one out. Within about a day of our kit exchange, I had the cab and hood sectioned about 5 mm and the roof chopped about 3 mm. The two pieces of hood and cab got cut into 10 pieces to make this work. I always liked the Rod & Custom Dream Truck, and this cab now had that sort of look and feel. After all that cutting, it didn't seem right to just put the stock pickup box behind it, so I looked around for inspiration and ideas. Not wanting to rip off the Dream Truck too much, I wanted to stay away from true fins and a fleetside style box, but wanted something interesting while keeping the factory rear fenders. I found an old Trumpeter '60 Pontiac body in my parts inventory and turned the rear fender "flat fins" vertical to make bed sides. I think the chrome strip along the tops of the box sides flowing down through the double tail light pods will be a nice look you don't see all that often. Bad photos, I know, but this all happens on-the-fly after midnight, so bare with me. I have some evil plans for the front too, but I'll keep that under wraps for now until I can get a spy-shot to Tyler first. Stay tuned, more to come later!

I don't know what it is about this particular kit that brings the best out of modelers, but it olften does, and this is starting out to be another one. To of the nicest ones were done by a couple of modeling buddies, Raul Perez and Curt Raitz. Both are non-TRaKable so I'll just provide links to their Fotkis, but you might find some food for thought on this ambitious piece of styrene surgery. Sadly Raul is into his 4th year away from auto modeling. A real loss in my view... But Curt's is fresh off the bench, and unlike Raul's which was an original concept, Curt's is a replica of a TV build and more interesting for its technical simplicity and build approach.

Looking forward to more, more, more of your highly original concept!

Looking awesome dude. These trucks look good sectioned. When I read you were doing a custom bed but avoiding the Dream Truck look, I thought 'uh oh, here we go'...and was pleasantly surprised. That Pontiac-fin bedside idea is inspired! Don't think I've seen anything like it before.

And the cab roof was cut into 6 pieces? Oh brother! But it do look right and had a lot of thought put into it before grabbing the saw. Gary

Cool start on it! To me, the front fenders need to be sectioned in width and height. They look massive compared to the cab and hood. The Pontiac bed sides is a brilliant idea!

That bed was a stroke of genius! Nice work getting that cab back together too.
