Any reason this kit would not be trackable if built in period correct style? I'm thinking at least a few would have made their way to North America, probably in Quebec. My concern is that it would be atypical of the hot rod scene in the traditional era. I have not finalized the build plan in every detail, but for now I'm thinking Revell parts pack Caddy engine (but possibly Chevy 283) '50s era WW tires. Have not decided on wheels yet, but they'd be '65 or older. Tuck and roll upholstery. It's not only an unusual subject for hot rodding, it's a fairly large car - WB about 122", lenght approx. 194", width about 67" For comparison a 32 ford would be about a 106" wb. So what's the verdict? Trackable, if built correctly ? Or is it too large and too unusual?

Hmm, that's tricky. It would be super unusual, but weird cars were certainly built in the 50s in the US and Canada! I think it could work...the car looks like a blend of '29 Ford and Chevy, with a dash of '34 Ford. Because the body is so big and the wheelbase is long, you will need large rear wheels/tires to get hot-rod proportions. The tires from the old Monogram and MPC classic luxury cars might work...especially if you build it fenderless. I can't really find many historical photos of rodded Renaults, though. Some people have attempted it more recently, though:

Thanks for the wheel/tire ideas. Hadn't considered going fenderless, but that might help.

I don't see why not, depending on what you do with it, parts used etc. After all, Fiats, Anglias, Austins and the like were used here extensively "in period" for dragsters. Go for it.

Ratty is the boss. Seriously inspirational stuff, I've been following along for years now. I usually tell myself "I don't have talent, skills, tools, money, or space to work"...but then I get reading his Fregate thread and think: "I have some flat ground, a chainsaw, lots of trees to make a shelter and maybe a redneck engine hoist, I should get a project car!!" What could go wrong? Lol.
