Yes, the '39 Deluxe and '40 Standard grilles have the same basic shape (but different bars and center divider); whereas the '40 Deluxe grille is much more narrow with chrome or painted 'side grilles' on either side of it and horizontal bars instead of curving vertical bars.

Nice conversion. Now, I dare you to finish it! Nice try Dennis! I know how that reverse pyschology works! LOL! It was worth a shot. So fine, don't finish it. See if I care!

You have to finish it!! I am watching and learning over here I tell you. I need this knowledge for future use for sure. There is a very slight chance that I too might want to take on such a project before I croak!!
Ok,ok then, maybe I just want to watch!?!

Well, due to a general lack of interest (both on my part and here on the forum) I have put this one on the back burner for a little while. I have another master back out on the bench; and hope to get that one wrapped up next; or at least further along.

Nah, cause then you guys will hold me to getting it done! LOL! All kidding aside, I have been asked quite a bit over the past year to come back out with the stock roof '33 Willys coupe. It was what I was in the middle of remastering when I got laid up due to three crushed discs in my neck. This is as close to starting over on a master as I care to get; but it was definitely needed to correct a number of things with the coupe body that bothered me even after refining the master three times in the past with each new body mold that I made over the past 10 years. Anyway, I still have a lot to do to the body; and will be remastering the stock front end from scratch I think. One cool thing worth mentioning is that I have a guy working on drawing up a stock grille to be 3D printed so that I can use it for a master to cast in resin. The grille will be made to fit my stock front end; which currently has a smoothed over 'fiberglass' grille insert in it. Here's a link to the 'final' remaster work so far on the '33 Willys coupe body. I went back to the first revised master (which was also the first master from a resin copy) after the original styrene master was worked over as far as I could take it. public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/1/ed_fluck/nostalgia_drag_racing/1933-willys-stock-r/Here is a link to my very first body master: public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/1/ed_fluck/nostalgia_drag_racing/1933-willys/

aaarrrrgghhhh..I was hoping for something exciting! LOL Different...back to cleaning parts now... Hey..I HAVE one of your 33 Willys...sittin right here! hmmmmmmmmmm.... I knew that was going to be your exact response Craig! LOL! Many people do not know just how bad I've had it over the past year physically....with three crushed discs in my neck......despite everything else my wife and I have been going through. I am not even sure how much time I can spend at the model bench just yet without being in pain again; so I figured I would try to finish one of my master projects rather than take on a new one. Also, keep in mind that I have had a lot of requests to bring the stock roof '33 Willys coupe back on-line over the past year and a half; and I can't do so until I finish remastering it. It wouldn't make sense to bring back the old body (which needed quite a bit of work for me to finally be happy with it.........the body and hood no longer fit very well from years of remolding); and then hope sales would remain high enough to justify coming out with another remastered version after that. I just don't think it would work out that way. There did not seem to be much interest in the '40 Deluxe (here and through others I've talked to); so I decided to put that on hold right now. Now, I do have other stuff planned for masters; but I need to take it one step at a time. No one is knocking on my door to do master work for me; and I do not have any talented master builders in my back pocket like many other casters do.

Off to a great start Ed, nice work, can't tell the conversion was ever done. Also thanks for pointing out the Revell coupe's lack of "hump" in the back portion of the roof. More (laid down), this perhaps makes it easier to chop!

That looks painful David! This is what I am hoping to reverse because I sure as heck don't want to go through surgery.........let alone do it with no health insurance!
