Would the following be considered TRAKable? This is an AMT 1967 Cougar with an AMT 1968 Shelby fastback roof. I plan to do this as a concept, or factory phantom.

Saw that over on the other site...very cool! However I'm not sure it's TRAKable, as '68 is pushing the limit pretty hard here and the forum is heavily oriented towards hot rods and customs. If it was done up as a custom, it might pass more easily. Think cragar mags on redline tires and trick custom paint as opposed to stock wheels/tires/factory style paint.

I agree with Chris here; and have been thinking about this very subject quite a bit lately. There were many late model (up to '69) muscle cars that were customized and debuted on the car show circuit like the Oakland Roadster Show. You even saw Ford's fastback Falcon and Cobra displayed. Then there were the Mopar show cars; but that was a year too late for the forum in 1970. Personally, I do not see a problem with customized muscle cars (like what you'd see in Tom Daniel, Dean Jeffries, and Thom Taylor drawings in Rod & Custom magazine); as long as they were a '69 or older body style. I find it comical that we have a cut-off period of 1969 and everyone's afraid of walking right up to that 'line'! LOL! Perhaps it is because late '60's muscle car builds have all been booted off of the forum in the past. We allow/like drag cars from the '60's on back on the forum; but it's apparently taboo to build a mid to late '60's muscle car as a drag car here. I can kind of understand that because the forum was/is centered around hot rods and customs. So, the way I look at it one should be allowed to showcase a customized muscle car ('69 or older) on the forum; but stock muscle car builds and Pro Stock muscle cars either push the limit or simply don't belong.
At this point, I would like to see more of your Cougar/Mustang build; and as Chris said, it would fit in better with a set of red line tires and mag wheels.......much like the ones found in the late '60's MPC kits.......sort of a ribbed Hurst looking wheel!

But it is a nice blending of the 2 bodies. It is custom and maybe Ford Motor Company should have done the same thing back then. Gary

Thanks for the input and opinion on my project. I intend to use redline tires, as I have a bag full of American SATCO redlines in the stash. Bluelines, and goldlines, too! LOL The following guideline is the reason I even thought to pursue posting this build here: 4. It's really very simple......Traditional styled pre-1970 rod (1969 and older) , kustom (concepts are acceptable) , vintage drags and salt flat cars ONLY! (some pre 40's dirt trackers and other racers are acceptable)It was the part in parentheses about concepts that gave me the idea. I'll put my thinkin' hat on, and come up with something else. Thanks, folks!!

I have it on two other forums, as we speak! LoL One is a proboards forum, and the other is a magazine forum.

I'm definitely interested in seeing more of this one, regardless of where it's posted!

I think if you went for the custom/concept vibe it should be OK... definitely mags and redlines, maybe Cibie rectangular headlamps, that kind of thing. Appliance Apache wheels would be perfect.

I say go for it.......and post it here on the forum. Me too. I'm already enjoying it on DPMCC, so why not here? Not worth haggling because you happen to be at the edge of the date range, IMHO. But then I was never a purist in these matters. Everything was done earlier than we think...

I do have the kit supplied custom front and rear treatments, as well as the factory stock stuff, so I could do a mild custom. I have Keystone wheels, like the ones I saw nearly everywhere in the sixties. One of my favorite wheels. If this ends up being a non TRAKable build, is it okay to post the links to where I've got it posted? BTW: I have a full-blown custom '58 Chevy Impala on the bench that I might be able to do here. One of the reasons I haven't put anything here is the fact that I build mostly mid-sixties stuff, and I knew they were on the fringe, so to speak!!

But then I was never a purist in these matters. Everything was done earlier than we think... I think part of the problem for some members to wrap their minds around is that the rules are not simply based on the cut-off year alone. That is a big part of it; but it is also the subject matter coming about by the late sixties that may or may not be within the forum's realm of interest. Just because it was something traditionally done in the automotive circles in the late sixties does not mean that it fits the guide lines of the forum. That being said, I already expressed my sentiments on this in a previous post.....and think that this build can quite easily fit in and even belong here.
