I've had this old kit laying around for a loooong time: I thought it was about time to see what might come out at the end of this build. Some things I'm trying for the first time! This gap issue was brought to my attention by another great model builder: I gotta fix that, so I took out my trusty razor saw: This is where I'm headed with the deck lid: I also had this Tamiya tape that needed to be used: So, I taped up the hood: And did this to it! I need to do a bit of cleanup, and some more fab work, then I can start with the filler!

Looks like a great custom-start!

Are you going to leave the trunk lid up like a spoiler? ...just kidding. Looks good so far! It's been a while since I've seen a pancaked hood like that on TRAK. Very cool.

I'm glad to see another of the venerable AMT 49 Merc's showing up. It still beats Revell's poor offering. Gary

I started the filling and sanding process. I also drilled the rear fenders for the Caddy taillights: Here's where the back side stands: Still some work to do back there. Slowly getting the front filled in: Plenty more filling and sanding to go!

Good work so far. You've reached the point where all mine go back in the box never to be seen again, so I hope to get some inspiration from the finished article.

"I also had this Tamiya tape that needed to be used:" - I actually chuckled over that remark! Looking good so far!

I added some .032" brass wire to the seats: Kinda cleaned up the edges of the styrene strips.

Brass wire...now that's a neat trick!

Interesting interior, the brass wire is killer stuff.
