hmmmm...is 69 not the cut off year? annnnd....if there is a ton of custom work....er...uh....well....wouldn't it be "classified" as a custom??? Even IF "stock appearing" Just sayin...not pickin.... Sooo Irv...don't put stock appearing wheels on it! (smart ass grin) Really? So, replace "custom" work with heavy bodywork(which I will go edit my post to better illustrate my point) I'm just playing devils advocate here. Like I said, I love Irv's work, and this build will be another gem. But stock appearing vehicles with no performance upgrades have been deleted here before. And I'm not even saying this build should be deleted. I'm just saying it's dancing very close to the rules, and I wanted to bring attention to it. Happy to have you posting here Irv. I'll be following

I'm not Bob, I'm not a moderator, but as long as we're playing devil's advocate, how does this fall outside the parameters of the site when the following is considered correct? trakinscale.proboards.com/thread/18894/1959-el-caminoNice as that Elky is, other than the rims, rake & very mildly custom two tone paint job, it's 100% stock. There's no custom body work, it's not a drag car, & since the absolute, verified manufacturing cutoff date for a hot rod is the year 1948, (by all the rodding groups), it technically isn't a hot rod. Heck, replace the wide whites with blackwall tires & we'd be calling it a 70's street machine. So, how is that trakable & this isn't, especially as Irv has said he's planning more bodywork for it?

How about a build thread on this car on Drastic Plastics forum? At least I'd like to see how this turns out.

For me, the 59 Elky mentioned is different from this 65 Riviera because it at least has non-stock wheels and tires. Is the 59 borderline, well yes, I guess it is as well. But Irv was insisting on using the stock wheels on his build. When people brought up alterations that could have been made to firmly seat it in the tradtional custom realm they weren't truly considered. Other than the lowered stance, and maybe the deletion of the door handles, what was custom about this build? And I wouldn't want him to change his vision of the build just to fit here, because I love how it was coming along and I hope to be able to follow it elsewhere. I wasn't crusading to get Irv's build removed, and I'm not the TRaK-ability police. All I was trying to point out was that lots of bodywork doesn't equal a custom in the traditional sense and that we have to be careful to fall into that trap. I'm assuming it was Irv that removed the build content, because if Bob had done it he probably would have wiped the entire thread. Instead the related posts that Irv didn't make remain.

Whatever happens, I'd like to be able to follow the build because I think this a very cool idea and I'm keen to see how it turns out!

I fully understand Craig & thanks for the reply. I did see your point, (& Bob's), & that may be a part of why I suggested Irv use the deeper grille from the Riviera, as well the fender openings from it, since as was pointed out, (& as I thought I remembered also!), concept car designs were ok here. In either case, it was all good, I asked simply because I was more curious about it than anything else when the Riviera was compared vis-à-vis the Elky, & the latter was a perfect example in this case. The biggest problem is Irv's idea has got things percolating in my brain regarding a 66 Riviera & a 68 Elky combo, & I have both kits in my stash!

the only problem was the body not existing , it is phantom. other than that it's sweet and I do love to see Irv's work!

and the 59 elky is mild kustom in my eyes. subtle, not factory paint or stance or wheels...can be subtle kustom without shaving or decking etc...
