This is a hot rod masquerading as a stocker, haha! Blink...and you'll miss all the hard work, because it's so elegantly blended and doesn't call attention to itself.

Thanx Gary and Chris! The stock look is becoming more and more of a problem for me. I've tried countless different wheels and tires on this thing and none of them have impressed me enough to change. I'm going to try painting the wheels black and paint the white walls to see if I like that look any better. I may shit can the hubcaps also. When I built my '36, the stock '37 wheels suited it perfect. But, that look just isn't working here. I have sprayed the first coat of pearl and clear. Really like how the paint looks!

What about a set of spider caps for the steelies? A hint of chrome and hot rod flavor. Might look great with whitewalls, too.

I got the engine detailed and ready to install. Everything is pretty much ready to go together now. I have to shoot the body with one more coat of clear. Hopefully, it comes out well enough that I won't have to polish it.

I actually think the truck looks really good on the black wheels and whitewalls!
Nice work on the hopped up flatty. I like the plug wire looms.

Yeah, that engine looks sweet! Are the air cleaner and finned heads both Revell '48 Ford items?

But, to me, the black steel wheels don't suit a shiney paint job. Plus, the rear tires don't fill the fenders even after I shimmed them out. I would have had to swap the rearend.

What size tubing did you use for the ignition wire conduit, it looks great btw.
I would second the black rim comment that Dennis made, I can see them dolled up with trim rings and period correct hub caps, sort of a "stocker" Hot Rod look. Maybe even a "Factory Phantom Sleeper" look! This one is coming together rather well, all that hard work is beginning to come together in a really stunning pick up!

Skip, the tubing is .047. A little on the small side. But, the .060 looked too big. I tried the trim rings and with the wheels being black, it made them look like 13" wheels. I have a plan for that set in the near future.

That's a lot of wheel-well to fill so whatever wheel diameter you choose will need to look good to the viewer's eye. Some times you have to go with what looks good to the eye, which is the case with those ignition conduits they just look so much like the full size ones do.

Have you thought about making it (gasp) a street rod, maybe with some Halibrands in satin finish?

Halibrans look good too.
