Back to the earlier "Magnet Vs. Paint" comment, for Michael's help when he gets to primer and topcoat stages: Has anyone else had the issue of the magnet repelling the primer and topcoat on the model's surface? It looks like a fisheye the exact diameter or shape of the rare-earth magnet on the surface over the magnet. If you've encountered this issue, how did you solve it?
My fix in the past has been to brush the primer and topcoat over the magnet then polish out and clearcoat it, but I can still tell the difference between magnet and no magnet in the paint. From my experience using the magnets to hold everything from hoods and doors closed to using them to hold Roth and Weird-Oh figures onto whatever they are meant to stand on is that the rare earth magnets work great.
Pretty sure though, and I hope he doesn't, Michael too will probably have an issue with this. So before it happens, does anyone have a good fix? (Pretty sure I'm not the only one this has happened to.) Thanks

My two cents on this after speaking to a couple others who like me have spent their lives painting sets, props & models for the entertainment industry, is that this issue is most likely dependent on the content of the pigment used in the manufacture of the primer and the paint. I'd do several samples before attempting a metallic or a 'flake. Maybe even stick with acylics. This is too beautiful a model to take that chance. I hope this helps.
Micheal, keep up the good work!

Rob, I highly suspected that was the case as I have noticed this occurring for the most part with red oxide and gray primers as well as colors which have some sort of ferrous metal in their formulations. I've never noticed any problem with acrylics either sprayed or brushed. I just didn't want to be too leading with the question so it wasn't a "Captain Obvious" answer.
Michael, glad to hear that you haven't experienced this phenomenon as you've laid down primer, let's keep our fingers crossed on the topcoat!

Video of opening doors and trunk on my ’51 Lincoln. For the trunk I tried to simulate torque spring operated hinges. Now I have to find a solution to hold the trunk lid in closed position.

Thanks for the detail photos of the hinge apparatus. That's pretty cool...I've never tried torque hinges before; they just seemed more complicated than I wanted to tackle.
I'm loving the curves of this car so far, and that side trim is extra tasty!
