Great start! To me, smoother is better -- and that's what you're doing. I think that the stock taillight thing was the result of the stylists having to make variations for different trim levels.

Yes! I agree that the parking lights and taillights seem very awkward compared to the flow and drama of the rest of the design. Love the re-sculpted area between the headlight and front wheel arch; it doesn't poke me in the eye like the original design did! Are you going to put the taillights in the fins? That would make the most sense to me.

Well this Chrysler obviously found the right home! Love what you're doing! The fin transition into the door is much better! The parking light solution looks very promising. Moving the taillights back into the fin where they were in 1960 seems like an ideal answer for that problem!

For a very long time I've been trying to find a use for these 60's bought Revell "US ROYAL MASTERS" tires, and I finally found one. A couple of years ago I cleaned up this four and repainted the pinner W/W's with acrylic flat white paint. The wheels are also Revell and are castings of one of my originals. I sanded the backs of the wheels to open the windows, and had to permanently glue wheelbacks to the stock inner rims. Hosted on FotkiI hunted through all my grille materials ( photoetch, Aurora, AMT, and junk etc.) to no avail. During that fruitless search I thought about grinding out the back of the stock grille to open it up. It took me a while of careful grinding but the result is perfect, and no damage occurred which was great since I didn't have another stock grille. Opening it up really makes a difference from the front. Hosted on FotkiThe bodywork is nearly done. I'm just tweaking the rear fascia and fins. More to come soon so come back and have a look-see. Thanks, Gary

Love those wheels! The bullet in the center is trick. I was going to point out that apparently the old parts-pack tires melt styrene in a bad way, but I imagine they're safe with resin wheels??
Grille looks good too. Looking forward to seeing it from the front!

Nice project, great improvement on the doors, i´ve always liked how the fins keeps on thru the doors, you made that thing much sharper by a small modification.

Chris, here's the view from the front. It came out perfect. Or I think so at least, LOL! Gary Hosted on Fotki

Looks fab! What kind of bits did you use to grind it out, Gary? I'm having trouble visualizing how the job was achieved, considering how deep the grille back is. Some kind of square-ended milling bit with a very steady hand?

Most of the hogging out of the back side of the grille was done with a 3/16" round bit, then I used a 1/8" diameter bit to finish. When the small openings were paper thin I used an old toothbrush to clean them out from the chrome side. I won't say how long it took me altogether but I worked verrrrry carefully. Gary

I hate it when I forget to save info when I'm updating. I'll try again to get it right! After a couple of crappy paint jobs I finally got a color I like. It's all polished and ready for the dreaded foiling. The interior is also done and my wife likes it. Actually so do I when I see it in place in the body below the freshly polished window unit. Looks great Gary. The color on the body reminds me of those Revell Mopars that had the body molded in a semi translucent "metalflake" and you paint the inside of the body.

That's a killer paint job, I once painted a hallway that purple, my wife didn't care for it.

Wow, this looks so great, Gary! That color looks like a near match for an actual '61 Chrysler color call "Dubonnet Metallic." It looks beautiful on your car.
