Well, over the last few weeks I've made the new cowl grille and installed the windshield and rear window. I've also started on the engine a while ago and have decided on the dress-up parts and injection from the AMT '70 Impala kit. I'll have to wait until the engine is installed before adding the injector tubes as they'll need to be cut to fit under the hood. If it s not too late, Parts By Parks makes several different lengths of injector stacks, including ones short enough to fit under the hood. I used a set of those on the same engine & intake when I built a 70s street machine version of the 70 Impala. Since the Parks injectors feature mounting pins, you can drill directly through the intake & the top of the block, (you'll have to do so in fact), but it gives you a secure fit once attached.

Thanks, good tip Mark. I never think of aftermarket for stuff like this. I'll probably just use the kit parts though. Easy enough to trim some off the bottom and drill for pins. I will keep them in mind though if something goes sideways.

Once again I'm amazed by the quality of your work on this one, Steve! However I can't help but feel that the drag racing fuel injection setup looks a bit out of place on a custom cruiser like this. For what it's worth I think the tri-carb intake from the '70 Impala kit would be far more appropriate for a late sixties' custom.

I vote to stick with the injection setup. At this point on the show circuit a high end car like this would have featured a high end/exotic intake setup. Something more subdued would be fine, but in a build of this caliber every aspect deserves to stand out.

Something more subdued would be fine, but in a build of this caliber every aspect deserves to stand out. Ditto Craig's comment + Having fooled with Mr. Hillborn's excellent mechanical fuel injection for a couple of seasons it wouldn't matter if the car ran well or not. They wouldn't have fooled with changing out the pills to make it run, when all it had to do was idle a little bit to get it off the trailer. After that it could have been pushed into the show if it wouldn't warm up and run. For something truly "exotic", a set of Webber/Zenith down draft carbs would give the look of the fuel injection without the tuning hassles. They were around on Ferrari's, AC Cobra's, Porsche's and a few other exotics clear back to the early 60's. Although not a common carburation system seen on American Iron they did exist and there are a few pics of LA Roadsters Hot Rods to prove it. Plus thumbing through pre-68/69 Hot Rod magazines, you'll find them in use on higher end builds as they have never been a cheap carburetion system.

Another, suitably exotic, setup for a custom like this would be the GMC 6-71/dual Weber DCOE side draft carburetor setup from AMT's '65 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Thought I had a cool idea on how to use the custom 'AMT annual seats with the Revell interior by swapping out the stock front seats for the custom ones and cutting the centers from the back seat. sinking them down in a bit and just putting the rear custom seats in the recesses. After working towards this for weeks, I get almost done and find it looks horrible. The custom seats look like child car seats. I hate it. So, I'm back almost at the beginning with this and will simply use the kit interior with a complimentary paint job. So, new plan, almost the same as in the pic but with stock white seats now.

What if you kept the contour you made and make the seats the same shape as the panel with out the seat, like a water fall type seat? Make the seat inserts tuck and roll like the tops of the doors. Paul

If it's not too late I concur with Paul. You could use Evergreen and lay some half round horizontally where you have the flocking to follow the contour you have. Vertical would go better with the door trim but would be much harder to get to fit.

That interior looks just dandy! Remember, "if it ain't broke, don't mess with it". It'll still look great in the masterpiece. Gary
