I picked up this builtup Blue Beetle on the 'bay a couple of months ago, purely because the pictures showed that the blue plastic was really minty. Turns out, it was. After I got it, I soaked the whole model in mineral spirits for a week, and it practically fell apart in my hand. So after polishing the plastic, I started restoring it with NOS chrome from a second-issue (darker blue plastic) kit. Here's the engine; I'm making a few changes to make it my own. Replicas and Miniatures carb scoops, dechromed heads, and to top it off, it'll be getting a Detail Master Street Magneto with plug wires. also, I wanted to point out that the valve covers and scoops were chromed using Molotow, while everything else is kit chrome. Hard to tell the difference, eh?

You’re on to it! Like the look of the carb scoops over the bell topped air cleaners, looks right at home too like Monogram could have released it that way. ( Not to mention for a is slight deviation is OK because it’s a reversible part swap that can be brought right back to “Box Fresh” in a heartbeat!)

I really like the engine changes. Those scoops look so much tougher, much better to go with the slicks and mags. I also like the painted heads much better.

Talk about frig'n cool! I really dig the new top end on that Cad! I built my original (mint) issue right out of the box years ago; and just polished out the body and did some minor paint detailing with the brush. I did rechrome the wheels since I was going with the matching front Americans from the Lil Coffin kit and had to block sand the heavy injection sink marks in the surface of the outer rims.
