Y'all might've seen in the "What Did You Get Today?" thread that I got this last week: As it was opened but sealed inside, the temptation to grok it was too great! So, I got out the cab & doors for a bit of test fitting: Hmmmm, that's a pretty severe wedge shaped gap between the roof & the door. Let's take a closer look: Wow! And you can tell by the door/cab alignment that the issue is the roof sloping, as the stamped trim lines up on both, as do the bottoms of the cab/doors. And the other side lines up the same. Also, the A pillars lean back just enough to offer almost no clearance between them & the doors. So, there's only one solution to these problems; cut the cab into pieces & reassemble it, fixing all the issues along the way. The cab after the first operation. The A pillars are in the baggie on the upper right: The sloping inner structure along the sides of the roof are history. They'll be replaced with correctly sized & trimmed styrene strip: A quick taped together mockup showing the roof & doors fitting much better, & how much I'll need to cut out of the back of the cab to get everything in alignment: Multi-piece frame is mostly together though:

Mark, Thanks for sharing the issues with the body on this kit. Could have saved lots of time by properly shimming that body to the frame,,, well that's how it works in full size. You go for "Best Fit" then start adding shims between body and frame, which hopefully isn't twisted too.
Essentially you are doing the same thing with the saw, I'm watching how this one goes together. I've thought about picking one up on eVilbay a time or two when the price was right. I can now see why the open box kits go for much less than the sealed ones! LoL!
Is this going to be a box-stock'ish build or what kind of plans do you have in the works for it, that is after you get proper alignment on the cab?

Having never built one of these, I'm a bit surprised by how much surgery the body requires out of the box! Looking forward to seeing where you go with the project. I see the kit comes with some Halibrand-esque wheels; cool. Does the firewall actually look as depicted on the box art? I always thought '31 Ford PUs had the same flat firewall as the cars did.

Yeah, the way the cab was laid out made breaking out the razor saw the best option. As to other than box stock, I dunno just yet. Besides Pro Tech, it's hard to find 1/16th scale detailing items. Until I discovered the body issues I was considering a 3 scale inch chop. Now, I'm not so sure, with everything else to fix. We'll see...

Yeah, the series, (stock & rod), were tooled up in Japan in the 70s, (& by Minicraft itself if I remember right), & were imported into the US by Entex, & released exclusively under Entex's logo back then. Several other Minicraft kits came out under Entex, including an excellent 1/16th MG TC that I have. The fit of these parts was kinda shocking! I'll have to check the cowl, as the firewall is molded with it, but I don't think it looks like the box art. It's closer to factory, simply because the same basic parts were shared between stock & hot rod versions of these kits.
