Haven't been here for a while, a combination of life getting in the way and losing my mojo. I'm doing a quick mostly OOB build of the Monogram '30 Ford touring. Only mods are deleting the cowl lamps and swapping out the wheels & tyres. Here's where I'm up to. I think I'm going with these wheels from the Revell '49 Merc. Front tyres are old Revell Good Years, rears are the Herb Deeks truck tyres that Bernard recommended. Plan is red for the body and fenders, white top, black interior. Simple.

Looks good so far Stu. The wheels and tires look great. I bought some of the Herb Deeks truck tires and found they didn’t fit the wheels I have. Perhaps he has two different sizes. Why a white top with a black interior? Why not both the same color? Just curious, not criticizing.

No real reason, I thought a white top would lighten it up a little and black might be a bit samey. If I don't like it, I can always redo it black... These tyres fit the larger Revell/Monogram wheels, so most of the '60s tooled Revell wheels and the Monogram ones that go with their Steel Belted Radials, or the Rally GTs. The smaller diameter wheels e.g. those in the Revell '32s are too small, but might work if wrapped with some thin strip stock. AMT/MPC wheels drop right through. Luckily, the wheel backs from the kit fit perfectly, so I chopped off the mounting stubs from the kit wheels and glued a short length into the wheel backs. I'll fix the wheels permanently after I've detail painted the inner rims.

Getting there. A quick, no nonsense build to restore my enthusiasm.

Looking good! I dig that SoCal Early Times vibe. Thanks, that's exactly the vibe I was shooting for! That's what makes these Monogram hot rod kits so special, IMHO. They're such an accurate representation of the era in which they were created. Why fight it when you can enjoy the journey...
Regarding the Deeks bias ply truck tires, they seem to "like" 1/24th scale wheels and Revell 1/25th scale wheels. I've fitted them to AMT wheels but it requires some enlargement of the rim diameter as was pointed out earlier. The combination of AMT fronts and Deeks rears is just about ideal for that period narrow big 'n' littles look. I'm finding that I'm hogging out AMTs to fit Revell and Monogram wheels more and more lately, especially now that chromed Modelhaus wheels are a bygone memory.

Nice., you nailed in to a tee. It put me in mind of the cover of HRM in December 1964.

Almost done, just the front seat to fit and then the chrome. Made up some black plates with '64 and '65 tags.

Nothing done on this since July... holidays, work, and now the clocks going back, kind of lost my spark. I did start a couple of other Monogram kits alongside; these were supposed to be quick slump busters. :/ I shall try to make some time for them soon. '29 RPU. Ignore the slot mags. it will have 5 spokes and slicks on the rear. It's further along, but I don't have any more recent photos. '32 roadster, Early Iron issue. Wheels are from a Lil' Coffin, but I'll swap the front tyres for smaller ones.

Stu, What a cool load of FUN, a "Boss Bunch of Drop Top Beauties"! Totally love the early SoCal look that you have got going, can't go wrong with the "Roadsters" look either, there is enough ink on the LA Roadsters club to build quite a few drop-top cars. Build on, I'm watching,,, hey now who's hogging the popcorn... LoL!
I may have missed it, or maybe I didn't read it. Are you polishing out those colored styrene bodies versus painting them? I think these old Monogram models look pretty amazing when the styrene is polished and waxed out to a blinding sheen! LoL!! I never used to think so until a certain Monogram modeler on here showed us all what beautiful finishes can be had just for polishing out what is already there, in multiple colours too.
