Love it Chuck. This question is for the long-time Trakers. I certainly remember rods in the 60's with XKE independent rear suspension and coil-over shocks. Did nobody do 4 link suspension? Not stirring trouble just curious. This debate was made here several times over the history of TRaK, and it was decided that it was just easier to not show the box stock underside of the Revell deuces (and now the Revell A kits).

Whichever way, I like the idea...

Couple mock-up shots in the meantime:
(The interior bits are borrowed from a first-issue '30 Coupe 'cause there's paint on the ones for this car.)
Gotta agree with Tim Boyd that it rocks back on its haunches, rather than rakes - dunno, I kinda like that though.

Now THIS is a thread! The car, the color, the whitewall decal story with a happy ending, the proposed interior color, the rear suspension cover-up! AND, your entertaining writing style. This is what I enjoy reading...and what I aspire to in model building. Thanks! Very nicely done! Love the color! Thanks, all of you, very much! So pleased you're enjoying it.

Hey guys -
matter-o'-taste question for errybody: I mocked this up, thought huh, white wheel wells are kinda kool - then immediately dismissed it, 'cause I've already painted the parts intended for permanent installation.
But then somebody elsewhere piped in that they liked the white wheel wells too, and somebody else opined maybe a white firewall with the checkerboard decals, which I'm thinkin' I would do if I repainted the wheel wells white. Probably the pearl white I'm giving the interior, but clearcoated.
Only thing holding me back is that this is supposed to be a quicker project and that will add some time.
But if enough of you agreed it'd be worth it...

This is just my personal preference, but I would paint them body color. But if you do paint them white I would definitely paint the firewall too.
I just can't get over how good those whitewalls look

At the risk of hijacking this thread, look at what's parked in the background! A '65 Chevelle two-door wagon, a full custom partly seen behind the wagon, a radical custom Econoline, a '64-'65 Buick wagon with mags and a custom-looking sports roadster. Those were the days.

That pic was during the Barris restore after the Ala Cart engine fire.

Chuck, I too would opt for body color in the wheel wells. My 2 cents.

Yup, body-color wells ftw, based on input, and in the interest of getting this to the finish line, the firewall will remain so too.

SO. In case any of you was wonderin' if the Creamsicle was just left to melt, may I assure you it was not. "Slump-buster". NINE. months. after the fact. Yaaayyy me... And what in the Habitat For Humanity is going on with those whitewall decals? Yeah, it appears I spoke without caveat, several months too soon. More to come.

Thanks, Mike! Again, backtracking 'cause I'm apparently soooo infatuated with that narrative device: So as I looked to keep some momentum going (slug's pace, yes, but hey, forward) I pondered what to keep box-stock - body shell and chassis, as you've seen, sure. Interior? Absolutely, why not. (Did I remember to polish off that overspray on the right card? crap I'll hafta look...)
Engine? NOT ON YOUR #@(%ING LIFE. We're CAR MODELERS, we don't leave engines alone! 'Specially not in rods with plug wires flopping around in the breeze! Detail Master to the ta-daaaa, wired in Nailhead order or as close as I could manage.
Turns out this mill didn't have a coil though. But the kit did - just clip out one of those sprue reinforcements between matching but separate parts - headlight buckets, iIrc? - even had a starting dimple to drill! Fit behind the passenger's cylinder head as if designed for it, plenty of room between block and firewall.
