It’s been a good while since I’ve contributed a WIP thread here and that’s because I strayed away from the hardcore Traditional stuff for a while with a handful of projects that don’t fit in here. However, my most recent project is this very Traditional ‘23 T Bucket based on a modern reissue of the old Monogram Little T tool. I’ve actually never cared much T Buckets in general but I have seen a few done just right over the years that I liked. This thread is a bit retroactive since this project was started months ago and regularly updated over on MCM’s forum. That being the case I’ll just do an overview of the highlights here.
So here is the project fully mocked up before starting the paint process.
I’m not a fan of the kits front axle set up. It’s kinda clunky and overly wide in my opinion. I grafted in the tubular front cross member with really nicely detailed spring perch from the extra Parts Pack frame that comes in the Atlantis (former Revell) Mooneyes dragster and then fit the nice dropped I-beam axle and split wishbones from Revell’s ‘29 Roadster/‘30 Coupe kits.
The kit comes with a Chevy small block with Saginaw 3-speed manual trans so starting with that and the cylinder heads I added the finned timing cover, water pump, belt drive, alternator, supercharger assembly, carburetors and bug catcher scoop from the Revell ‘29 Roadster/‘30 Coupe kits. M/T valve covers (unknown origin) with added breathers. Shotgun headers from the AMT Parts Pack Chevy engine. Magneto from AMT ‘57 Chevy.
The kit lacks a steering gear so I added one from Revell’s ‘40 Ford’s along with the pitman arm from Revell’s ’29 Pickup.
In the interior I used the Cragar steering wheel from Monogram’s ‘32 Roadster and grafted in the center of the dashboard and gauge panel from Revell’s ‘30 Coupe.
The finished engine. The block is painted Tamiya TS92 Metallic Orange. I drilled and added red Parts By Parks plug wires to the magneto.
The finished chassis, frame in Tamiya Gloss Black and Clear. The quick change axle and rear suspension are straight from the box and the kit front tube shocks were trimmed a bit to fit with the new axle. Front laced wheels and tires are from the Atlantis Mooneyes dragster while the rear wheels and slicks are from the old Monogram Boot Hill Express show rod.
The body and related parts are finished in Tamiya TS92 Metallic Orange and their clear.
The interior and bed cover are finished in Tamiya Racing White with flat clear. The wheel and column tube were finished in the same metallic orange as the body and engine.
And finally, a sneak peak with the painted body and interior set onto the chassis.
I still need to polish and wax the body and finish a few other details and then the car can be final assembled. Hope you all like what I’ve got going on here.
