This is the Fortman and Kerr Deuce, class winner of the first World Series of Drag Racing in 1954 @105,88 mph on Alky. After the meet the car was parked with 8/10 miles on it. The car never was run or moved until it was sold in 2012. We went to the Mecham auction in 2017 but it went over our max bid of $30,000 (the wife was reining me in for going over) The car sold for $39,000.

1/2" ID fuel lines are not a modellers error.

Beautiful job Paul. I accept the 1/2 fuel lines, but it seems like it would have take a lot of pressure to fill the lines. Wonder if it was one of those ideas back in the day. Like the sky-high front and low rear end to preload the weight transfer. Whatever the reason it certainly didn't catch on.

Fuel was 100% alcohol with a hand pump. Remember there was no Nitro, Benzine or such. Your choices were Alcohol, Av Gas or pump gas. Also it was corn based alcohol not methanol or ethanol.
In 1953 54 when the car was built there was nothing to use a reference. Nobody had a "map" of what did or did not work, unlike the late fifties on. Build what you think will work and go from there. No split wish bones, no dropped axles, stock 47 rear and the trans was a 48 Ford 3/4 ton truck. This car actually was used as an example for other cars in that time. Until this meet drag racing didn't have any national competitions other than Mirage and Bonneville and not even state wide except in Cali. The only "big" names at the meet were the Arfons brothers. Even Arnie Beswick was unknown out side of Morrison, Illinois. He was actually racing the family 1953 Olds 88.
