I know a wheel change does not make a custom. I'm more concerned with trim/badge removal. I have a resin 57 Buick Roadmaster that I want to mildly clean up. It now has chrome wheels with baby moons and small whitewalls. Other than cleaning up overlooked resin flash the body is still stock. What are my options? Thanks, Gary

shaved, wheel change...pretty mild and still acceptable. 57 Roadmaster is kinda tough. most I have seen were custom painted and more interior customizing than anything.

Yeah, going to Kustomrama you can find a lotta mild customs like that which are perfectly Trakable. So do the pics in Andy Southard's great book Customs Of The 1950s. To Bob's comments, you can add lake or bellflower pipes, mild trim changes, grille swaps & taillight swaps.

Other than a mild rake, paint, pipes and caps this one's got all the stock trim and badges in place, but still a mild custom..... Same deal: mild rake, paint, pipes and caps, plus stock interior, trim and badges = mild custom! Thom Taylor's book, Kustomland, is also a great source of mild custom reference. Grill and taillight swaps that require frenching and lead or other metal work seem to me to be getting into semi-custom territory. But if it could be accomplished with a bolt-on, that's still mild. A full hood, trunk and door handle shave, plus frenched head and taillights, rounded hood corners, and frenched hood scoop and full '57 Chrysler grill swap with accompanying "metal" work, serious lowering and a complete custom interior put this Fairlane on the cusp semi-custom land.
