I guess I didn't start a thread on this model that I got from Craig Turner last year. I've been working on it off and on since then but a lot more lately. The last pictures were taken last week. Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiThe body work is progressing, mostly at the rear. Gary

Nice so far. Front fenders have a '60 Ford look which is a good look. Rear need maybe subtle bat wings worked into the lower valence. In my eye the rectangular tail light opening and the bat wing shapes clash. Just my potato eyes opinion.

John, I did notice the error in the frame but have been procrastinating fixing it. The rear pan opening had already been modified by slightly narrowing it and rounding the opening ends, but I don't have any pictures yet. It's still a work in progress. Gary

Still procrastinating on stretching the chassis but I will do it eventually. I have a few new pictures now which include possible new grilles. It will be obvious as to where they're coming from. Some final touches still need to be done on the rear end and the grille opening is coming along. The rear grilles are from the AMT 55 Chevy Nomad, as are the rear grille shells (they started out that way anyway) I have some small chrome bullets I'll try to glue to the lenses. The bed cover is the kit piece sanded smooth, with a rolled and pleated panel I added in the middle. Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiAnybody see a grille they like better than the others? I like the stock 65 ElCamino grile more than the other two. Gary

Coming out great. I like the center grill pic. using a second one on the rear might look good.

I like the quad headlights of the stock 65 grille, but the stock ornamentation takes me out of it.
i like the bottom grill too, but maybe add a set of quad lights floating in there to finish it off?

Gary, I like the bottom grille best. The top grille would be perfect if it didn't have that Chevy logo across the front. The way you styled the front is perfect. The way the body contour meets the front points is genius. All the grilles fit the style really well. I keep looking at the rear and it seems to heavy. Perhaps you could drop it in the center to follow the fender lines and bring it closer to the body. It would be nice if the trim in the rear was the same as in the front. I really like how the trim shows through the taillights and think a single piece of clear red plastic over the trim would look sweet. My 2 cents. I'll be watching no matter what.

I like the style of the 2nd grill with horizontal bars best. I would start with that and sink a set of quad lights into it.

I wonder how the two custom grilles would look with a set of rectangular Cibie headlights (from either AMT's "Fireball 500", '66 Thunderbird or '70 Impala)?

I also like the second grill the best, but I'm thinking it will need a set of headlights.
Anyway, I like where this is going, I'll be following...

I wasn't going to add headlights until I made my final decision on a grille.

The original release of the '65 El Camino included a grille cover molded in clear with horizontal lines. I don't know if later releases included it but if you can find one, that would really give a clean custom look because it matches the pointed shapes.
