I have been battling to get back to the hobby for the last 12years. Since my youngest was born, playing with her and doing the dad thing...moving a few times, going through a lot of marital stuff etc... I could never, no matter how much I wanted to, get back to the bench. I have still been battling since going through divorce (says little) and then my ex passing not long after, moving and changing my whole life around...skateboarding, photography and more....trying to remain active and happy. Well NOW I am still unable to paint where I live and I am definitely moving next August into a house OR back to Omaha where homes are plentiful. I am tired...tired of working my ass off and unable to fully live how I want to. I have known Kirstopher Diaz for awhile and he's not far from me. He is going to let me use his paint booth next Sunday and I am going to paint this SOB and start working on it! Right now, just working on clean up/prep work for primer. (sorry for the long story just have to get it off my chest lol) picked up this color turquoise flake or pearly metallic , looks pretty fine and some clear to go with it. I have to find primer in my storage or buy more. But it's ON!

I admire you for persevering though difficult times. It's good that you'll be able to spray paint again. I lived in apartments and condos for many decades so I know what it was like. When there was no on-site manager and there was enough outdoor open space so no one could hear the spray can ssssss sound (and consider you to be a vandal) I could prep the body, stick it on a pop bottle, put a hot-water-heated spray can in my back pocket and go out for a walk and, magically, return with a painted body. It wasn't ideal but it was something. For airbrushing, I bought a new big (5 gallon?) hand-pump insecticide sprayer and connected the hose to a regulator. It was absolutely silent except for a little whoosh from the airbrush that was masked by traffic noise. I had a little balcony where I could even spray stinky paint, slowly, undetected.
Anyway, I'm proud of you for staying strong, I'm sure that your future will be bright and I expect to see that F100 lookihg cool soon.

Bob, are you sure your wheel choice for this pickup will work? looks a bit flimsy. Gary

What Charley said! We are all with you!
Color looks great! Though I think Gary may be right about the wheels!

I would paint here, but being on the second floor, overspray will drop on the guy and his dog below me, the fumes will go into other windows and doors...it will be a problem. looking forward now! there is a workshop I just found out about here too, I can go for a couple hours and work on stuff with some other locals!

When we lived in an apartment in NYC I'd paint in an old Amazon box in the bathroom. Now we have a house with a yard...I still paint in an old Amazon box in the bathroom

Rev. Black,
I get ya' loud and clear brother! Been there, done some of that, and probably at the same time as you man! New wife and a whole new life for me! Moved 4 times, sold one house, had 6 different jobs, lost my mother, a sister-in-law, a nephew and a grandson. Sometimes after going through some really hard times, you kind of want to say," Bring it M$#&@!@#$*&^ ! I made it through all that other stuff, what ya' got?!"
The strong survive, and know when to back off and take some down time when needed. To coin a line from the movie "Robots";
Alright, break times over!
Glad to have you back at it man, truly.

HRTom & Bob, Man I hear you there, (we haven't moved in ages), lost my Mom a year ago, the "funk" is just now starting to clear! Don't believe that ever I've been so depressed that I just couldn't pick up a chunk of styrene at least once a day, that's been how this year has gone though. Started out again with a really Non-TRAKable Hasagowa 60's Volkswagen pickup, (curbside) all lowered down Kalifornia Look with Empi wheels... Just focused on paint and executing decent building techniques to get back in the groove, silly thing took over three months! I just couldn't get into it every day, still not every day yet, it'll get there though. I hope! Current build is a Slingster, that I just started on Tuesday, hopefully it doesn't take a month of Sundays to complete!
Back when we were renting, I used to paint in a collapsible 'frigerator box with my Paasche spray booth set on a T.V. tray, vented out the window which I closed up with another chunk of cardboard. It worked, kept the paint mess off the owner's flooring and stuff. It was a real pain to drag out and get set up every time I wanted to paint. Sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do!

thanks guys, I know I am not alone and that is comforting as much as it sucks. I am sorry to hear that you guys also lost and prevailed. I have lost a bunch of friends in the last few years also and one of my uncles. I literally have thought about writing a book. I can't make a post and explain what I went through and the things I have witnessed...I really don't think there is any way to visualize the insanity. (not just my marriage) If I wrote a book it would be an eye opener. I did make it and I am happier than ever and trying to get my feet back into running mode!
As for painting, I do have an airbrush but I have only shot with it once like 15 plus years ago. I have been rattle canning my whole life and that's what is hardest about being able to paint here....the overspray and fumes are much more intense lol

doesn't count as progress, but am prepping tonight for primer, paint and clear tomorrow! gonna get the paint laid at Kris' house tomorrow and tomorrow evening might let it gas out real good. will post pics. Monday if I am not wore out I will get to polishing the clear out. if you remember it's kinda how I build, paint and make sure body looks good, foil the body, while getting my vision of the build together in my mind. wheel choices, details etc. it's been so long!

I know this doesn't look like much, but I bought a Tamiya paint stand set AND spent time this evening cleaning up mold lines and stuff so it's ready for primer and paint tomorrow!
