Alright... if ya REALLY wanna stay traditional, can those lakes pipes with the twin caps and use a pair with only ONE cap. The multiple caps appeared only on the more radical stuff and, lots of times, weren't even capped. All these multiple cap sets ya see on cars nowdays are from somebody's fertile imagination... not recollections of the '50s, or even '60s. Trust me. I been around long enuff ta remember. That "46" in my name is NOT my age in years!

Born a few years before the rods I am interested in, time period wise...but mid-fifties, that was a very cool time too...about the time My dad was in high school, wish he was still alive, he would have been a great source of info. Your box is not more mild as long as it is chopped...and it is ! What Jondutch says is right ! sombreros and lake pipes don't go together ! If you want a true early 50 look the sombrero are THE hubcaps, but lake pipes are a late 50's trend ... that's no big deal if you want your model to look like a current "oldschool" fashion , all the parts from 30's to 50's look kool together, they just don't look "period perfect" ! nice project, keep us posted ! ;D

Charles I grew up in Iowa. We did things a little different than the guys on the coasts but the end results were really kool. There were lots of mild kustoms running around my home town... no chopped tops but some really nice body work.
