Having a little hang up on the 40 panelrod in the paintshop, so I dug out the very crappy Lindberg 40 coupe that came with a Dodge flat bed. Inspired by a link posted by Charles, I'm going with a blown flathead powered Salt flats racer. First thing was to move the engine back in the frame, about 3/4 of an inch. So, the firewall had to go.

Love the cars that were on the lakes...especially in the forties...man, if you can find a picture of "The Tractor" now that was a ballsy ride...

Is that plastic as cheesy as it looks from here? I can almost see through it!
More chinese cost cutting crap. (CCCC). I bet it crazes when it gets some paint on it just like the mustang kit does.

Yours is white? Mine is gray! Wtf? Did they just make them whatever color they felt like that day?
Should be a cool racer when done! I gotta figure out something to do with mine too. I wouldn't mind chopping it up to build a gasser, or perhaps a vintage stock-car.

I wouldn't mind chopping it up to build a gasser, or perhaps a vintage stock-car. some were gray and some were transparent white. the white ones i beleive to be crappier quality. all of them had flash, but to me it's not as bad as people say....it's just more than the average. just my opinion.

Yeah, I don't mind the flash. It's bad, but nothing a little clean up can't handle. I've heard a bunch of complaint about more serious mold issue with the truck, but none of the stuff in my box had anything worse than the flash. The car may even be more versatile as it's thinner plastic should be more easy to work--I have yet to really mess around with it.
Wonder why they decided to make them in both colors for the same issue? I guess it would be normal if they were different issue versions, but for the same one, it just seems strange.

Guys, yer all right. Xcept Bob. It is crappy. Mine is transparent like milk. Half of each of the windows had molded trim that trailed off into nothing on another section of the same window, Misaligned mold sections, Etc. I like to keep the trim when I chop, but it was impossible on this. I did work like hell to keep the trim mold on the rear windows, But it was a major job. I copped out on the rest of the window trim. I solved the misfitting body parts problem by making it all 1 piece and I have it hinged at the rear to lift up like a funny car. To keep it in the parameters of this forum, I'll claim it is still an all steel body and not the new-fangled fibreglas. My garage assistant, Egor, will go along to the flats to do the lifting. yuk, yuk.

That's wicked cool. Way to use an otherwise almost useless kit. There are some useable parts, but not much else. Looking forward to seeing this one done.

The lift off body, very traditional, seen pics of both hinged like later funnycars and some where they just lifted the entire body off, could get rid of the fenders and it would fit as well...

Charles Nah, I want to keep it fendered. My other salt model is a full fendered tub, but it gets a little radical after that I suppose it would fit TRAK parameters . I'll post it and see if Bob bounces it.
