Going through a Gasser kick right now. Not sure which way to go on the 59 El Camino. Mild or Wild? I would like to find a scale bail of hay to throw in the back for weight. Always wanted to build a 55 Gasser. Just gotta find that nomad straight axle! The 56 Ford is the next to hit the sky. Just finished shaving the trim and door handles.

How did you do the rear wheel wells on the 55 Chevy?

I opened up the rear wells on the 55 chevy with my dremel and a round sanding drum. I used a wheel as a guide to draw the wells on the inside...then started grinding away... don't grind too much, too fast. the dremel will melt the plastic.
Geezerman, Lets see if I can change your mind during this build.

Making some progress on the 55 Chevy. It has rims and straight axle from the beverly hillbillies kit. Still waiting for some nice weather to paint the body. Pearl Yellow is in its future...just gotta try a few colors to get it right. Putting the 59 elcamino on hold for a bit.

Kool! Nothin beats a '55 Sedan gasser in the looks dept. Nice wheel choice!
You might need to open up the bottom edges of the rear wheel openings. They look like they juuuust fit the tire as-is.

Yah, I was thinkin the same thing Mattrotta. its a tight fit on the sides.
Geezerman... The new re-issue of the 59 elcamino has a pic on the side with car in red with white rims...nose up in the air. Its the reason I got the kit. My biggest problem with the elky is the rear wells. I don't want to ruin those lines by hoggin out the wells. I'll probably go the mild route with it. Still plan on making it a weekend dragster. the rest of the week it will be the farms fastest hay runner.

Man! This 59 elcamino is takin control! Should be on the shelf soon! Waiting for another nice day to finish up any painting. Still need to paint the bed and throw some drag related graphics and shoot some clear. This is one of my favorite engine builds in a long time. Its mostly from the elky kit. Scratch built the manifold on top of the blower and used the 6 carb set up from the classic 32.
