Got bored and got after it tonight. I will say this....the kits quality is great. Nice molds, not much flash, quality plastic, neat accessories. And THANK YOU for finally having full chrome bumpers in a kit without garish mold lines through them and for having hidden parts-tree attachment points on them. But there are just so many tiny areas on the body alone that don't look right. I know it's a custom so it's not supposed to be factory, but the hood just looked WAY off...too square, the contours are wrong. The side panels of the car are too flat. And the rear window seems too big. But, it's nothing that can't be fixed, and I'm glad they released this kit. It's overall a winner.
I started by fixing the chop. I can't remember and couldn't find who did this first and posted it here, but I followed suit. Same method, different executioner. Cut the roof in the center and add material in the middle of the A-pillar. Leveled the top right out, much better.
I know the kit Sombreros aren't perfect, but they aren't bad. I think the kits tires are what make the caps look so odd. So, I swapped in the larger tires from the '39 Coupe kit and think they look perfect.
I wish the skirts didn't have that funky contour on the lower edge, I might have left them alone. But I made them flush fit anyway and will add material to the lower edge to bring them in line with the rocker panel.
I also shaved the drip rails. They didn't match the curve of the rear side windows anyway. I did what I could to give the sides some more curve, shaved the top of the dog leg and the rocker panel, I think it looks better. Then I started reshaping the hood. Got rid of the peak completely and rounded it all back out. I also rounded the headlight rings more. I made the grill surround match the hood, and rounded it in more as well, more like a real Merc surround.
