Oh yeah, Dave - way to channel! I like your dash choice. I'm also planning a channeled, fendered version (surprise!) when mine gets here later this week.

Nice. Please tell me that beehive comes in the kit!
A question about your building style...
I see you are assembling the model unpainted. are you using a temp glue to hold it together then disassemble to paint? or do you paint it while its together?

Looking good DD! way to really cut into a brand spankin new kit...I love all your builds so I'm sure this one will not disappoint, great idea on the back wheels..they look way better with some lip to them...
I'll be watching this one for sure...
Mine will be moderately channeled, and fenderless...once I get thru with some other stuff...

hhmm i wonder Craig, you reckon the LHS owners should start askin us when new products are released? just ribbin ya you know. Normally oyr LHS owner is pretty on the ball. He suually has the MK and most new releases on the shelf right away, but jondutch said that the owner hadn't even heard of this kit when he asked him. And it seems on the other boards that other people are experiencing the same thing with their LHS. I know you are just giving me a hard time. But it seems like Revell didn't promote this a whole lot from the moment they announced it. Hope they sell millions of them

RandFink, Mr.Metallic and I all share the same woes. I wuz the one who called our LHS and asked about 'em... he didn't even know they were comin'... all he could find on the packing list from the supplier wuz a Model A tudor. This guy has the most complete hobby shop in the area but doesn't have a clue about what's goin' on... never even thinks about goin' to the hobby shows. Afraid he'd hafta close the shop fer a day so he could go! Unfortunately, he's still the best game in town.

i like to mock stuff up to get a nice feel of how the thing is going to look before i start painting. i sometimes will use dots of superglue to hold things together temporarily, other times it's pinning the parts together. some parts like the '29 ratrod front axles i use in alot of my builds, i completely assemble before painting. those axles have worked out well for me built that way.
the beehive filter comes in the kit and is intended to go in the recessed part of the firewall. there are no holes provided to attach it to, so you are on your own. with the channel i was not able to put it there and thought it looked better out where it is anyway. if it was on a 1:1 rod, you would have to be able to remove the top, which you wouldn't be able to do with it tucked into the recess. i dug the heads out of the Dawn power dissolver tonight, they look nice and clean! now i can take advantage of the nice engraving that either set has. i like the Edelbrock's but i dont want to have them on all the flatheads i build. the Motor City heads are nice, but i think they are from the 90's. still some nice heads though, i may end up using them. "Dawn power dissolver "
Guess I don't know this trick, Dave. Is this something you do to remove chrome? Or are you just cleaning up some old parts? Are both sets of heads from the new Revell kit?
If my SIL throws some money at me for helping paint the grand daughters Jeep I'll have to get me one of these. The 50 Ford truck too. ;D

I strip the chrome from everything with ammonia, then if i need to get that yellow/brownish lacquer stuff off, i use the Dawn power dissolver. both the ammonia and the power dissolver are safe to be washed down the sink, which is important to me.
the Edelbrock heads come with this kit, but the Motor City Flatheads ones come from the '48 Ford convertible. Dave

Those MCF's seem a little too "new" with the hardware. The bolts seem kinda on the small side, whereas the Edelbrocks seem just right with the acorn head nuts. Just me, but the MCF's would look good with acorns too.

Dave, you're right - those Motor City heads are too modern. Check the Model Car Garage for vintage Offy, Sharp, Navarro, etc. heads in resin. Or what about Reps & Mins. Thickstun head covers? REALLY nice castings from both, too! Thanks for the ammonia & DPD tip. I too like non-caustic stuff that I can flush down the sink.

i think i'm actually going to go with the MCF heads on this one, i do like the way they look and the nice engraving. i have a BUNCH of heads from the different companies, but i have found that the Model Car Garage ones are a bit too big for nearly all the flatheads i have tried them on. i have the Thickstun heads and covers, but those are going in a boat project!
