i know what some of you guys who read this are thinking already, trust me! i have a unique situation with my Revell '32 5-window and wheel fitment. i'm making every effort possible to mount a set of AMT 12-spoke mags under the fenders of this project AND have poseable steering. i went through a ton of kit axles looking for something somewhere that would work and i've come up with nothing. one potential solution involves using RnD Uniques white metal tube front axle and actually hoping i can bend it successfully to narrow it's track width. here's the "ugly" solution the Phantom Vicky's independent front suspension can be adapted to the Revell frame easily and provides both the ride height and poseable steering i'm looking for and has a narrow enough track width to fit the 12-spokes. BUT it's a modern component! or is it? while it's not the "norm" independent front suspensions have been adapted to many traditional rods. i know that Corvair front suspension swaps were not uncommon and the Vicky's suspension isn't too far off from what could have been built by a skilled hot rodder or professional shop back pre-'68. New Englands Paul Fitzgerald built two independent front suspension systems for his '32 roadster in the late 50's and early 60's in his parents garage. i just want to check before i go posting this front suspension on my build if it's going to be a big issue here.

Dave, what about using the RnD spindles and drilling out the Revell '29-'31 drop axle? Wouldn't that resolve the problem? Check you build topic as I think I have the RnD drop axle you're looking for.

The AMT/MPC Woodie/ pick-up kits share most of the chassis parts with the 28 Sedan kit as this is what replaced the Sedan body. The original front axle is kind of "clunky" but.......

What about the Revell Model A's?

as far as passing for "TRaKable"....I have said many times the suspension or chassis work is not important. "If we can't see it, it doesn't matter".....but of course if you see it on a hot rod, I personally won't care for it much....I prefer what can be seen, to be TRaKable.

the Revell model A kit axle is my axle of choice for hot rod builds. the problem i have here with using that one is the backing plates for the brakes. spindle mount wheels dont have brake backing plates, in most cases they don't even have brakes. you cant remove the backing plate from the Revell axles spindles, it uses too much of it to make the steering poseable. by the time i cut enough away to look right, i won't have anything left to retain the spindle. the other issue is the track width. for the 12-spokes to fit the axle needs to be narrower than it is. i could cut a bit out of the center, but then it will be very weak. Bob Dudek has an awesome metal axle but i think it too will be too wide.
this is what i get for running these wheels with fenders!

I have one and it's same width as the plastic one.

Dave, I got your email and thought best to reply here. This axle is for another project with high detail that I have not finished. I may actually be changing the whole thing to be "TRaKable" since it's not the way it is... This is Bob's axle with the Revell '32 Ford axle. Compare, they are same width and well worth the money! You can even invest in the REALLY nice hairpins that actually WORK!

thanks a ton for those pics Bob! that axle is narrower than i thought it would be, no idea why i thought it was wider than it is.
i'll definitely look into that one for a future project or two if they are still available.
the Phantom Vicky I.F.S. isn't actually too bad. under a fendered car it looks okay and gives you some options for appearance as you can leave it chrome or strip it and paint the parts to either hide it or accent it. the poseable steering is a big plus too if you like that kind of thing. the track width is actually adjustable to a certain degree. i don't think i would ever use this suspension on a fenderless ride though.

Holy Crap Batman, that is seriously impressive. I don't believe I have ever seen that axle before. Guess, I need to get in touch with Bob.

What does Bob's axle, with & without the working hairpins, worth on the open market? KK

the axle is $30.00 and I don't know how much the hairpins are...the ones I have could have been special made and might include RB Motion parts.....that is something you have to ask Bob about.
