looking back through my references i don't see much of dirt track tires used on street cars until more recently. i'm curious as to everyones thoughts or input on this one. Norman makes some really nice dirt tires in 3 or 4 different widths and i've used the meduim width tires on a few builds. i also have some of hte Monogram small sprint car tires that i wonder about. in the 90's a whole lot of "traditional" hot rods started showing up with some pretty wide dirt track tires on them. growing up during that time it had a huge influence on me and i really liked the look, i don't see that though looking back in my references for something that people did pre-69. so what's the verdict on this type of tire? this is one of the Monogram tires with a Polar Lights funnycar wheel in it. very, very hot rod, but is it "traditional"? I dunno....I bet some guys ran dirt tires on their cars back in the day....but very doubtful they had the modern tread patterns like those. As far as I know guys used to cut their own treads into the standard tires.

You cut your own treads in a pair of slicks to make 'em legal enough to keep Johny Law out of your face. The current trend (in 1:1) is to run WAY-TOO-WIDE dirt tires on a lot of rods (or rod-ents). Looks a lot better to run 8 inch or 10 "Cheaters" rather than a 2 foot wide rubber shoe in the back.

the wide dirt tires like i pictured i think are a trend of the 90's. there were dirt tires used on a bunch of early traditional cars but it wasn't really too common.
Norman's 9" dirt tires i think are the limit honestly as even the 11" ones he does are probably getting on the too wide thing like Tom mentioned.
no one else has any input here?

Without being anything remotely close to an expert on the subject, I think using the tires in the picture on a rod will give it a way too modern look (Same goes for the mags: Though they're period-correct(late sixties), the ET Mags were funnycar-wheels).
