man such a bitchin' project deserves some truth. I don't want to make ya feel bad or anything, but I really think those front tires are aweful on this car. They are too fat and wide whites don't suit the front end of this beast. Can I suggest skinny whites or just all black.....skinnier tires? It's your model and I really dig it, but I think them tires are a bit much. Keep it coming, I like all the work you are doing! ;D

I think it might just be the picture. In the picture they do kinda look big but in person they look good. They are hard to visualize because the wheel rims aren't painted yet so they blend in with the whitewall inserts making them seem fatter than they actually are. Those whitewall inserts are going to be painted black and the raised lip around the edge will be painted white, reducing the amount of black on the sidewall. It will look good when it's all painted. I promise LOL! The 1:1 car had large tires on all four wheels that typically would only be used on the rear.

Aaron, thanks for explaining that. I didn't realize your goal I guess. I am sure that will look good. The 1:1 photo makes it even easier to visualize thanks!

Next week, hopefully, i'm going to look for the correct shade of purple for this. The 1:1 car was painted with GM Plum Mist Metallic. Based on the information I found it was only available from 1966-1967 and apparently was a very rare color. The first year, it was only available in Canada, the next year it was available in the US but was renamed Royal Plum. I hope one of the local NAPA stores will be able to mix some up for me. If not, I won't paint this until I can get the right stuff. MCW has it listed on thier website as Royal Plum, but that is totally useless to me because they don't ship to Canada. Here's what it looks like on a GTO. I hope this picture doesn't get deleted. I just want to show people what the color looked like. The photos I posted before are 44 years old so they might be slightly faded.

I realize now that it's a Chevelle. I should have known that, I guess I didn't look close enough at the picture. The SS badges on the back and quarter panels should have made it obvious.

Today I finally found one of the most important pieces, a '34 truck grille: Now the front looks right! The '32 car grille is similar, but just won't do for a replica build!

It's getting a bit closer to being finished but still lots left to do! I used Evergreen half round to make the belt line trim, added header flanges, and made another Man-A-Fre intake manifold. I also started over with the frame. The Monogram piece is total crap, so it now has a Revell '31 Sedan frame. I had the paint custom mixed at NAPA yesterday. They couldn't mix it in lacquer, so acrylic enamel it is. I was told at the store that it might be a little bit darker than the original stuff, based on how the metallics in the paint lay down. It should be good though.

Use a light gray or white primer. That may help on keeping it lighter. Depends on how many coats you put on or how heavy.

Thanks guys.
I just finished building the transmission crossmember/scatter shield. I'm planning on doing a few more things with it this evening so I'll wait until later to post pictures.
