Hey guys, I'm working on a revell 5 window with the Hemi. here is a shot of the motor since this is all i've got done so far. as you can see I've got the old hemi fuel injection set-up from the AMT 53(56?) ford truck. I'm going to change that to the 4 carb set-up that norm sells. Main thing here is the color. Its painted with spazstix color change paint. The body of the kit will be painted in a pearl white, with some pearl blue added. Are these style colors a no-no? I'm thinking since they are for customs, and pearls were available back then maybe it would slide. Anyway I've got 2 ways to build it, one will fit here, one won't and that depends on the answer to the paint questions. Thanks guys.. Gray

Prismatic "chameleon" colors are about the only thing that doesn't fly around here (with the possible exception of hot eighties neon colors - Some of them were actually used on customs back in the sixties)
Pearl colors are perfectly OK!
I don't think I would have noticed the change in color on the engine if you hadn't pointed it out, so I'm inclined to turning the blind eye to that particular detail - not sure what the others think though...
On a different note, I'm glad to hear that you're changing the intake, as I think the de-chromed shortened injector stacks makes the intakes look like modern throttle-bodies, which wouldn't be TRaK-able...

Yeah I tacked those on just to see what they looked like. I placed an order with Norm 2 weeks ago and those parts will be here soon. If anything I'll build this one non trak style buy another..lol. I'm just itching to build something trakable and everything I've started or think up has a little too much modern stuff on it.... like say a 29 A on 32 rails with an RMCM Offy...but with a turbo..lol.
I'm trying guys...lol

Sadly Gary chameleon colors are a no-go here. But on a lighter note those chameleon colors don't photograph worth a shit as you can see and I found out the hard way. So I'm gonna say as long as you don't tell others will just think it's metal flake

I know turbos have been around most of my life, but didn't see many until the last 15-20 years, all contemporary. Are there any scale/plastic examples of any of these early turbos? Where might a modeler find such treasures?

There was also a twin turbo small block chevy powered Willys Gasser. Any names associated with it escape me but there's a lot of pics in Gasser Wars including some nice clear ones of the turbo set up. From what I remember the design of the turbine & impeller housings hasn't changed much over the years. Just don't use modern intercoolers, BoVs, throttle bodies etc If you want a nice big turbo then maybe something like a 1/24 P38 could provide one?

Willys - They went on to run a turbocharged 68/69 Cuda, but it was outlawed by NHRA, forcing them to run it with a blower instead - Ohio George Montgomery also ran his "Mr Gasket Gasser" '69 Mustang with dual turbochargers, and I even think one of the '65 Mopar AWBs was run with a pair of turbos. Having said that, I haven't seen many pics of "TRaK-Traditional" cars with turbos, and it's not my impression that they were neither particularly common nor popular among rodders pre-'69...

Yes, Mallicoat Bros. Thanks Chris.
Volvo - yes it could. But would it? With no electronics tuning a turbo set up for everyday street use would have been interesting to say the least.

Well, turbo and EFI doesn't necessarily go hand-in-hand... Sure, it makes it a lot easier, but people have managed to get them working well with both carbs and mechanical FI so...
Then, a turbo wouldn't have been my first choice for a TRAKable car... but still...

Just a thought, but when was the first Mazda Rotary produced...

I think that it came with the 1965 Mazda Cosmo sport. But NSU was a bit earlier with rotary engines. 1963 or 1964 IIRC.
