During the mid 1960s a few former drag racers looking for a new kind of excitment formed the N.I.R.A, National Illegal Racing Association. This new drag racing was entirely illegal yet operated with more efficiency than the NHRA and was more organized than street racing. The only rule was that drivers had to have a car that could get down the 1/4 mile. No seatbelts, no roll bars, no safety equipment. Just a brave driver and a car with a big engine. If you crashed, hell that was your problem, the wreck got pushed off the track regardless of whether you were still in it or not. This is one of those racers... This build took me about 4 days. I had a ton of fun building it. I didnt put to much detail into it to save me some stress and to actually finish something finally cause I realized I didnt have any completed hot rods on my shelf. Paint is Testors Saphire blue metalic over Testors gold or. Motor is the blown olds from the Beatnik Bandit kit. Headers are from the Beatnik Bandit kit and turned upside down. Ill probably ad more detail over time as I see fit. The inner panel is scratch built from sheet styrene and then punched to look like rivits and painted silver so that it looks like an aluminum inner panel. Dash is 37 chevy Eventually i will also rechrome the blower belt cover and some of the other engine parts as the chrome on them wasnt very good. Ill use the duplicolour chrome paint. Thanks for looking.

Thank you Rodburner: For the door panel I took a piece of sheet styrene. Then I scribed the door line into it and punched holes around it to look like rivits and then painted it silver to look like aluminum. The thickness of the styrene escapes me at the moment but it was very thin, almost card stock.

Nice. N.I.R.A. = the way it should be. Drag racing today is too organized and too sterile. Should have stayed backyard and homemade.

AHH for the good 'ol days.Nice job on the Roadster. Not trying to be critical but when you go back to do some fine tuning on the motor you may want to cut the headers up just a bit for in the pics they look like their dragging the ground.Again I'm not trying to be an ass about this.

Thanks guys George. The headers arent dragging on the ground it is just the way that the bottom of my photobooth is sitting. Still though i may lop them off eventually for good measure.
