I've been much more focused on art lately than models. One of the things I've been doing is quick sketches to get more practice drawing cars. I have a 5 X 8 sketchbook I've been using for the past several months just for that purpose. All of these sketches were 15 min. From an old calender Another calender photo From the Throttle book; Another from Throtte; Yet another from Thottle; Uh, more Throttle; Also from Throttle but I spent 30 min. on this one; From the latest issue of Rod & Kulture, about 20 min. Very nice David, it's a great feeling to be able to freely sketch things you enjoy in life.
I used to draw cars in high school, mainly in science classes, my attempts were far less enjoyable to look at then your work though!

You've got a nice free-flowing style and a great eye for proportion.
(I can say that cos I did two years at art college!)

Thanks for the comments guys. I haven't been doing any doodling lately, been too busy getting ready to move. Gotta keep up these sketches though, they are great practice. I hope to become competent enough to produce real artwork some day.
Once I get back at it I'll add more to this thread.

Good scribbling. Are they getting more recent as we come down the page as they seem to be improving. Not that there's anything wrong with the ones at the top. That's obviously a Volkswagen in the first one for example

Great way to learn. As Mike said, correct proportion makes or breaks a drawing.

Thanks for the comments guys. I finally got a break on the moving action and spent some time sketching tonight; This is off the '48 Merc custom in the latest issue of R&K. There are some proportion issues, and I didn't mean for the car to have a leaning forward look but this sketch is an improvement in several areas for me. Fat fender car proportions can be a real challenge. I spent nearly an hour on this one! BTW, Ed Tillrock is my hero. He is the best automotive artist in graphite I've ever seen, bar none. Check out his website; www.edtillrock.com/automotiveart.htmlHere's a thread in a forum where he's showing off some "looser" style "sketches". I personally would call them drawings, and kick-ass drawings at that; www.motorburg.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2623David

Here's my lastest quick sketch. This is based on a photo I took at a car show last year. I spent about 30 min. on this one. I'm not fan of rat rods but they can some times provide interesting photos and references for artwork. David

Another one from a photo I took last year. I'm thinking of attempting to develope a full detail drawing from this one. David
