Okay... So here's something that you don't see everyday. For our fall KKIM meet back in October of 2006, a few of us got together and decided to put together a special tribute to say thanks to founder John Berry for his many years of dedication and leadership. Now John is known to have a special fondness for bubble tops, so it was decided that the theme of our tribute would be bubbles.... I of course waited until the last minute to start anything but, with seven days left before the show, I grabbed my spare parts / junk box and started pulling out assorted bits and pieces, such as an old '32 roadster body, an Ala Kart chassis, the interior and custom nose from an original AMT '32 sedan, a Revell Parts Pack custom bubble.... I tossed it all together and six days later here's what I came up with......... BTW..... When I say junk box that's what I mean. Here's a look at what I started with.... As always, if you have questions, comments..... concerns. Leave 'em here ;D

Excellent for just six days! I really like the look the body had before you did the build, but It needed a rebuild either way. You did something really cool and different and that's what matters!

Aw man, I would have given you half a dozen new roadster kits for that old partial built up. There's no way I could get myself to cut up an original built one, no matter how crude! (sometimes the cruder, the better!)
This one remind me a lot of the Brown-Neck Bandito.

I'da run with that neat old roadster body also. I realize what you were doin', Marty, but I'm saying it anyway.........that bubble top thing is leaning toward ugly.

Turd or not.....somebody at one point in time made it into a turd. Painted it with a brush and laid those decals on it. That thing had "history" and "patina" if you will. I just really like that kind of stuff on models. They were built without all of the detail and correctness we build with today. Just some kid having a lot of fun. I've got a shelf just for finds like those.

I know what you mean about the patina. I was hesitant to clean up the interior of my roadster build just because now, I have to simulate it. No big deal, that's what our hobby is about. I do have an idea to speed up the "weathering" process... put it outside somewhere under cover from rain but open to the air. An open porch comes to mind... It should only take a month or so... Sorry to be a thread pirate, but I had a thought to share.

That original tub is way cool. I do understand the point of view on old builds but I also have old built ups that I am in the process of tearing apart and building...I like using older parts and making something I like with them. Recycling if you will...expensive recycling, but recycling none-the-less.

I like it! It goes against all consideration for wha it WAS, and becomes something ELSE! I can understand about wanting to keep it in the "as-found" condition, but this is really one of those builds that epitomizes the Traditional "Show-Rod" idea. It was either something so far off the wall that you almost hated it, or you absolutley loved it. Here it is. Geezer, I see what you mean in that it can be a little homely looking, but giving the nod to Big Daddy, this is bubbleicious, baby! Color is right, grille is right, stance and wheel/tire combo is right. WOW! Knockout job!
