King Creole was definately a show car styled rod. I didn't have a prob with that, so I wouldn't have a problem with angel haired show cars either.
To really keep it real, 1965 is the true cut off. I only went to 1969 to allow everyone a little room....afterall this isn't HAMB and even the HAMB has huge threads on post '65 topics.
I don't want to change what this place has stood for. When I put that in the guidelines "no show rods"....I had the pool table, outhouses and bathtubs in mind. I have never disallowed a Roth rod that was from the era and many of his were self created show rods.
What I had in mind for this forum was .....
Imagine this......
If you went back in time to when all of the COOL cars and trucks were rods, kustoms and bad to the bone race cars.....back before there was afros, disco and bell bottoms...... the cars and trucks which started it all.....what we consider "Tradition" today! The timeless looks that can still be created today......that might be hard to decipher if it was built in 1950 or 2010. During those days I was not even a thought.....
I don't know how to exactly explain it guys? To the people who "get it".....you know when you see something that is traditional. If you see a build that screams "too new" to be traditional or "old school" true to the words..... then it shouldn't be shown here.
Keeping the tradition alive.....
If back in the day there was a show car....it should be allowed here. I feel it fits the years we all came here to enjoy. Maybe at the least.....we should just cut out the post 65 stuff completely? If that happened....many parts would be disallowed. I don't want to do that....man it would be tough for some guys to really know what should and shouldn't be used.....so on the other hand I prefer it stays pre 1969, which I feel is a "happy medium".
All my internal thoughts aside....
If we take on the title of show rods or show cars in our TRaKable guidelines....1965 should be the cut off for them. Like Don mentioned, there is Coffin Corner which allows and loves all show rods.....it's kinda like this place but more leniant. Their thing is show rods and that's what they specialize in. Our thing is rods, kustoms, vintage drags and other racers.
Let 'em roll! If you see a "too new" show rod.....speak up! If people just applaud the "too new" stuff....it makes it tough for me to do anything about it and look like an asshole.....know what I mean? Just like if someone posts a TUNER......you would have a fit and so would I! lol.... well not a fit, but it wouldn't last long here. So if you see a hot rod wheelchair or a kustom pop machine..... well you get it.
Confused yet?
