That sure looks good! I like the lines of that new, Chopped Top, it looks excellent. Great work and I can't wait to see more of this, since I Chopped mine some time ago too.

I love the headlites and the filled in back windows-I remember this look. Are you still going to change the character line on the doors? If so how do you plan to do this? I've thought a lot about this modification , and haven't yet figured out the best way to do it. Please continue to post and keep up the good work, it's very inspirational, thanks. R

I took the plunge yesterday, and after a lot of thought I decided to go for the 51 rear fenders, or a reasonable facsimile anyway. I'll try for a picture tomorrow if I can, but it's gonna be a busy day. Robt, I'm still mulling over the full fadeaway. More than likely if I do I'll fill in the dent in the door with a fitted styrene piece and some putty. This may be more of a possibility after the rear fenders are further along. Thanks for the comments, everybody. Gary

As I mentioned above, I'm working on my 51 type rear fenders. What I have today is shown below. I doubt seriously that they're exactly right, but lucky for me this is a custom 51 so that isn't an issue. Here are two views of the new fender shape, done with a XXXX load of sheet styrene pieces. This next picture is a preview of the new taillights. Anybody wanna guess what I'm using? Thanks for your always welcome input. Gary

This next picture is a preview of the new taillights. Anybody wanna guess what I'm using? 54 Merc tailites are looking classy on a 51 Mercury, but the top of the slot don't match... may be 56 chrysler ? nice work on the fenders anyway ! ;-)

Zed, I've always been a fan of the 56 Chrysler units and I think they were very much underused. Actually I've always loved the 56 Packard units and I've been working a set from Rep's & Min's into extended fenders. I think these might be just a tad small though. The 54 Merc units are also great in a 51 Merc. Gary

Well boy, is photobucket giving me grief tonight. I can't seem to attach a name to one of my pictures so I'll show what I can. This rather sloppy picture gives some idea of how far I've gotten along with the new taillight installation. I've always been a fan of these Packard units, and this is the first time I've used them on anything. The rear bumper is a narrowed old tool Revell 56 Chevy rear bumper with the bumper guards removed. I'm using it upside down too. The next two pictures are just different vantage points. My wife's not too keen on these taillights (for whatever reason) and I know they've been used on an awful lot of 1:1's, but now it's my turn. I hope someone out there agrees with me! Thanks, Gary
