thanks for checking Ed. In my opinion it's such a thin line to follow because we have stayed away from wheels like that here. I would hate to allow wide radials in the rear now after deleting them so many times in the past and then have to re-write our history lol I think it's a cool build, never seen one done up that I know of...but I feel it is just borderline.
Ed...post some pre 70 evidence of those wheels....that would help!

I wonder why the numbers on the box aren't in any order? I have a '73 F-350 with the lot number of T-387. It doesn't make sense that a higher numbered lot came before a lower numbered lot. My '77 F-350 has a lot number of T-482. Really confusing.
The rear tires are Good Year Blue Streak Dragway Specials. I don't think Blue Streaks were ever a radial tire. I could be wrong though. Like Ed, I'm pretty sure that the ET slotted mags were before '70. I've seen them on a lot of old drag and street cars. But, that don't necessarily mean anything. It's been a long time since I've looked at those old magazines.

Here you go........this coupe was in one of the Pictorials as well. I did not post pics of the cars I could not remember (or say for certain) when they hit the magazines.......just those that I knew for sure. So, I am being objective here! LOL! Hosted on Fotki

thanks Ed, much more than I expected haha!
I think we need a wheel style timeline thread! Wheels, tires and years they were introduced. This would be a HUGE help around here to clear up confusion as to what wheels we can use. I think we all pretty much know, but some of this late 60's stuff drives my thoughts into the 1970's because when I think traditional rod or drag cars...I don't think of wide treads like shown by you.

No problem. Just wanted to clarify that some of these wheels and tires (what I've shown) were coming into their own well before 1970.........as early as '67 from what I have learned for certain ones. Also, some of these 'new' wheels and tires that came about in the late sixties obviously carried on as 'the trend' into the early '70's; which is only natural. This is why I always can provide proof for my builds being period correct for the time frame I am aiming for. Not everything had pie crust slicks, steel wheels, and white walls you know! LOL!

Actually that'd be a great idea - I've recently found pictures of the classic Rader DBR100 Mags as old as from 1962.

I know I haven't used them because of the 1:1 crowd making them more popular today then they were back in the '60's.......and that trickling down into the modeling realm! LOL! I actually started to dislike them because that was all I was seeing for quite a while.......wide whites and Radir (Rader) wheels!!!!

I don't think anything Radial would fit in here however the Widetracks and a few others were out there in the 60's as Bias Ply tires. so you could use the Bias ply as a qualifier if it says Radial on it it's too new. we can research when most of the tires came out I think pretty easy. wheels are a little complicated because there are so many variants to some of them. I tend to over research my subjects so I know what was correct at that timeline and try to stick to that. otherwise you can end up mixing timelines and turn out a confusing build to ppl that really know what they are looking at.

I would concur with Ed. Roger if I had this one I'd lose the big meats n' mags, put some skinny big n' lil's on her with some moon discs or chromies and put her on the shelf call her TRaK-able. it's a period piece and a good example of personal faves. My personal fave(also oddly proportioned) is Lindburg's '32 pic-up, I must've built 6 or 8 of them in the 60's, most in lavenders and purples.

Sweet rides! When I see orange rods with brown tufted interiors, blue streaks, and unpolished mags, I think 1967-8. The protruding-tire look strikes me as a '70s thing, even if the tires themselves were available earlier. Cragars scream '70s, too.

Thanx for all of these cool photos Ed! I especially love these cars! I gotta build all of them! That little red '29 roadster will be the first one I build. To me, it has a modern look to it. Almost a "billet era" look. One could say it was a car before it's time. I love it! I know that! It will be followed by the blue one right above it or they may both get built at the same time! You just cost me a lot of money Ed! LOL

I am going to sand off the pinstripe flames and shoot clear over it again or maybe just polish it out if possible. That was my first attempt at free handing pinstripes. They look like shit to me now. It was just something I wanted to try at the time. The wheels and tires are going to go back to the original four slots and Good Year Polyglas two piece tires. I'm not going to change it to make it TRaKable. It is what it is. It either fits or it doesn't. I found my original (what's left of it) the other day. I may build something that'll fit here with it.
