Glad to see this one back on your bench John! Interior is a BIG improvement! I really look forward to seeing what kind of paint job you put on it! You had me worried about the grille fitment on this kit. I guess I got lucky on mine as all I had to do was take a little out of the height. Is the current grille from the kit or the coupe?

This will be another killer build from your bench. I like how it looks already, especially the hood with louvers on it is a nice touch. But where can I get a set of those hubcaps? They'd be perfect for a few Custom and Hot Rod projects....

Thanks, Roger! The current grill assembly is from a black original issue tudor parts car since it was a cleaner molding in better plastic.

Of course since this is a hot rod it has to have an engine! I started the build as a companion to my '40 coupe, which used the original kit engine with some added detail, so I wanted to do the same here, using the kit's lumpy Olds engine. In the intervening years, however, my tremor has gotten worse and even this level of detail proved a real challenge. In addition to wires, fuel lines, and some simplified carb linkage, I added the fan and upper radiator missing from the kit, along with bracketry to the generator. Note the ignition coil will eventually mount to the firewall rather than hanging in space! Let me know what you think.

Sweet job on the engine detailing there John! Man that chrome on the fan, pulleys and generator are sparkling! Molotow pen by chance?
Gonna be another contest killer when its done!

Engine looks nice John! Makes me wish I had painted my engine gold. I never thought to mount the fan on the crank pulley. I was going to add the radiator hose. But, couldn't even after I mounted the radiator higher. You may already know, but check the fitment of the headlights. I didn't. The flat areas on the fenders was somehow bigger than my headlights. A little sanding around the perimeter would have fixed it.

This is the best job on the old AMT '40 Ford's Olds mill I've seen to date! Great job John! I hope your health doesn't deteriorate to the point where you cannot enjoy building any longer.

My precedent was the kit flathead, which has the fan on the crank pulley. Thanks for the tip on the headlights – I'll check that!

I hope the tremor doesn't stop me either – got a lot of projects started! It does drive me to keep building as much as I can for as long as I can. I see a new neurologist in August to explore alternatives.

I see a new neurologist in August to explore alternatives. That is good to hear! I hope your situation improves more than mine has. I still cannot spend any reasonable amount of time at the desk in the model room without suffering some physical consequences from the crushed discs in my neck. I don't ever want to feel nerve pain like I did over the past 2-3 years. It's been pretty decent lately (as far as the nerve pain itself goes); but I also have not been sitting back in the model room working on anything either.......catch 22!

Well that's a gorgeous engine! Amazing what some paint detailing can do. I'm always impressed to learn that a modeler is producing enviable work despite physical challenges. I hope you can keep building this stuff, because I know we all enjoy seeing it.
