That looks like it will be very effective, visually. I hadn't noticed the filler, thought it was just a funky shadow where backlight light was shining through the plastic!

I decided to can moving the fenders back idea. I instead just shaved the middle stake pocket off. I really didn't want to buy another kit for the parts I wanted to use. Plus, there was no way to be sure that I wouldn't have to modify the new chassis either. With all the other ideas I was coming up with: changing the engine etc.etc. it seemed I was headed down a rabbit hole. Don't want to go there! So, I've decided to stick with the simple plan and execute it. I learned a long time ago that every model doesn't have to be a show contender. Besides, I haven't been to a model show in several years. Some of my favorite models are the most simple. Since the last update, I got the floor pan made, firewall filled at the bottom, panels matched/lines scribed, shaved the drip rails, door panels and dash modified, head and tail lights glued on and finally, got some primer shot on it. Now that I see it in gray (darker), I'm not so sure about using a light gray on it.

Looking good! I actually think the shaved stake pocket has smoothed the bed out nicely. It's a custom, after all! The artillery wheels and caps on big n' little tires give the truck some attitude.

Excellent! Are the headlights from the ‘36? Looks even better in primer, can’t wait for color!

I love it! And I think you’re making the right decision to keep it simple. Lyle Willits famously used to say that he didn’t display his models upside down. But I feel the struggle because all of my stuff ends up going down the rabbit hole and then it’s forever before they end up on the shelf.
For color, how about a shade of tan? I’ve always loved that for an early Ford truck.

I like the tan idea! I don't have a model painted that color. I'll have to check and see what Tamiya has and order a can.

Funny, my first thought was tan, too. The kind of tan that has a little olive green in it. Something like Poteet's 2019 AMBR winner (the '36 Ford roadster with OT one-off wheels) comes to mind...or these:

That's the exact color I was thinking of too Chris! I ordered a can of Tamiya Light Sand. They also had it in metallic. But, I figure I can add a coat of pearl over it if I want. I also thought of doing a dark brown. I like the Testors Root Beer color. But, it has the out of scale flake that a lot of the one coat colors do.

That color looks great on it. What color are you going to use on the wheels?
