I'm in the very early stages with a '66 Mustang project that actually spawned from another Mustang project. I did a coupe conversion on a '67 and made the mistake of placing the '67 fastback roof onto the '66 body. The more I looked at it, the more I thought that it would take very little to glue them together. And I did. Then, I got the idea of making a concept or custom out of it. I'm leaning more towards the concept idea. But, it could go either way. When I get something substantial to photo, I'll post it. But, I was thinking that '65 is the model cut off year. Plus, if I build it as a concept, it would be a phantom. So, I don't know if it would work here.

"4. It's really very simple......Traditional styled pre-1970 rod (1969 and older) , kustom (concepts are acceptable) , vintage drags and salt flat cars ONLY! (some pre 40's dirt trackers and other racers are acceptable)". Br sure to keep us posted on your progress!

Wow! As much as I like the lines of the 65/66 fastback, I really like the lines of this. You can see the both years lines and how they fit together so well. Maybe you could call it a Quarter Year!

The bodywork and the cibies are killer. If you're accepting suggestions at all, a set of tail lights from a '67-69 Shelby Mustang would look wicked, as would something full length. I also feel like losing the stock wheels and picking something funkier, like the aluminum style wheels AMT put in some of its mid-late '60s annuals, might help the TRAKability of the concept. Love what I'm seeing, brother.

Roger,
I love the look. I have to admit that it got past me the first time, but when i saw the different roof on it, it made perfect sense. It just flows.

I have a full width tail light engraved into the tail panel. The hood scoop is going to have to go.

Roger; i'm glad you decided to ditch the scoop, to me it contrasted with the design you're after ! chrome reversed with baby moons, or American five spokes for the rims perhaps ?

Perhaps styled steel wheels or Magnum 500's or anything Shellby Kelsey Hayes would also fit the concept vibe.

Right now, I'm leaning more towards the concept idea with Shelby five spokes. If I can get the hood loose (I glued it with the intent of building it curbside), I think I'll use the chassis, core support and interior from the '67. I've got plenty of time to figure things out. Right now, my '60 Falcon and this are occupying my time.

Speaking of Kelseys, the Stripper Mags that a lot of modelers mistake for wires out of the '66 Merc could be very unique and cool on this thing, and Hurst Mags would also look really tasty with the pinners you have on there now.

I actually had the Stripper Mag wheels on it and didn't like the way they looked. I stuck a set of Hurst mags from an MPC Jeepster on it also. Didn't like those either. But, the center cap sticks out too far. I want to try a set from a Revell Z-16 Chevelle and see what they look like.

I think those have a little bowtie in the center, but it could look cool if you cover it up with a three-prong knockoff or something. What about the Hurst Mags they just put back into the new Hemi Under Glass kit? Those look to have a deeper offset than the wheels in the Jeepster.
