Yes, it's been awhile since I've shared anything on TRaK. The bench has been active, but not anything I can share here. But that changes right now, with this build I'm very excited about. I've been interested in the Monogram 1/24 Hot Rod series for some time now, but lately my obsession has grown deeper. You know, the Little Deuce, Little T, Blue Beetle and Woody Wagon? Now I have decided it's time to actually start building some of these. I have grand plans in my mind for a whole bunch of builds based on these kits and their subsequent iterations(Boss-A-Bone, etc)
I love the near "shake the box and out comes a great looking hot rod" formula that Monogram used on these kits. They look great, right out of the box, and there are tons of beautiful examples of box art builds on shelves all over the place. I want something just a little different, so I plan to build box stock+ versions of all four. What that means is subtle upgrades to the base kit. Paint detailing, additions of chrome where there was none, stuff like that.
Enter, the Little Deuce. The unfortunate thing about first two releases of the LD is that, unlike the other three kits in the series that all had their parts molded in at least 2 colors in the box, the LD is all white. Since I happened to have an Early Iron series builtup that I had parted out a couple years ago, I decided to use that kits beautiful shiny black plastic as the basis for my LD.
So, as Dennis Lacy would say, here's the "swap meet" view of the parts I have gathered. All the white parts are from various LD builtups I acquired, with the exception of the front brakes and exhaust from the mufflers to the tips.
There will be some restoration required, mostly involving these parts. The small headlights are a bit crusty, so I'll replace the lenses, the rad has the pins broken off, and apparently I don't have any molded-in-white firewalls. So, I'll get creative and use the molded in black one, with a twist.
