Joseph; Your parts-box build is currently borderline Rat Rod, but can definitely still be tweaked to fit the traditionality-criteria:
One thing that will have to go is the chunky Goodyear Rally GT offroad tires... Personally I'd throw on a set of steelies with blackwall bias-ply tires for the low-budget, "rod in progress"-look
Ron; A Potwin-blown 392 in a Starliner is a classic combination... The only thing that bothers me about it is the size of the rear wing. They used to cut up the cars pretty extensively to improve the aerodynamics, but I'm not quite sure, approximately when wings of such considerable size became common on the salt flats. Can anyone fill me in on this matter?

I'm no expert on the wings - but it seems like a contemporary style to me. The rest is kool!

I'm actually planning on going after a traditional 60s style look with this build and I didn't really think the wheels and tires worked, so I asked. Edit 5-2-11 Here's an updated shot. As long as I continue along this route I should be OK, right?

Sweet! And my name is Remington The reason he asked is that the forum-rules reqiure that you add your full name to the signature-field below your posts (You can access the function through the "profile" tab in the toolbar below the TRaK-logo on the top of the page). We've had to take this precaution after some "incidents" with (semi-)anonymous users acting up.

I know many builders will show their cars bare metal like that at shows because they know photos will be taken and proof will be out there of all the work into the body. ie. welds, no bondo etc..

I'm preparing to build the new Hudson Hornet but mostly Box stock with a Candy paint job. Would that be considered a custom or not? Either way, Custom or Stock, would it be TRaK-able? Pretty much what the box looks like except a different maybe two-tone paint job. I was also thinking about this version...TRaK-able?

Tim...i may be out voted...but i see no reason why your Hudson wouldn't be TRaKable if it were a custom or a stockcar built back in the day.
