(snippet)....plus i didnt do any pic references i just took it like it was....... Sometimes, that's the BEST thing to do! No worries! You can build more models that way, & have fun doing it. Steve

You did it like me ?...oh Steve, you did it one thousand time better than me ! Another one i can't wait to see finished ! Do you have some plan for another grille and bumpers and things like that, or will you keep the stock bright work like on ya mock'up ? At this point, I don't plan on using stock bumpers & grille, I'm trying to work out what I will be using. Steve

I am really glad to see these Fleetlines gettin' attention instead of the new '49 Mercs from Revell. Not that I don't like the Mercs, but come on! They are almost startin' to become like belly-buttons! EVERYBODY HAS ONE! (at least NORMAL people have a belly button!). I got 3 of these (Fleetline kits), and haven't done enything more than open one box to inspect it and come up with a preliminary plan, but nothin' else. Your chop looks great, and the A-pillar makes a HUGE difference in the appearance (read CORRECT!). Your chop also looks a lot simpler to execute, and I may use this as reference for mine. Good job!

Nice job, Steve. Don't know how I missed getting in on this thread. I too, like seeing all of these Fleetlines. And Like the OUtlaw, I didn't pay any attention to what was correct or not either, I just took it at face value and chopped away. trakinscale.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=on&action=display&thread=1189277914However, you guys are doing great jobs, I butchered mine up pretty bad in progress. Cheers, Geezer

I agree, Tom. Mercs are like bellybuttons and assholes. Now... here's a question ta ponder. Ever wonder what the custom car world would be like if Bob Hirohata had bought a '51 Fleetline instead of a '51 Merc? Face it, guys... we all know what Sam did with his personal Buick... imagine the Hirohata treatment on a Fleetline. Now.. who's gonna be first?

THAT sounds kinda like a personal challenge.....Hmmmmm..... Hirohota.....Hmmmmmm........Maybe........ It would definatley be kool! I got so many landmark kustoms kruizin' through my head, I have forgotten whether the H-Merc had the Buick side-spear on it. Gonna haveta research that. But back to this model (Thought I was gettin' OT, didn't ya'!?) I like the lines of that chop and the proportions. It flows excellently from front to rear with no "angle or wedge", and just looks right to me. I would say that this could be an example peice for a "Proper" top chop on one of these. Not to detract from any of the other builders on this forum that have already applied blade to medium! I had better stop, otherwise somebody is gonna start thinkin' that I'm strokin' an ego, and I ain't about to start THAT BS!

Yeah, Tom... the Hirohata is seafoam and dark green with Buick trim and the hand-made hardtop quarter windows. I figured that name would bring an immediate image to all you traditional guys. Guess my age is showing. Shut up, George... I can hear your thoughts!

Thanks, guys! The funky backlight shape needs a bit of work to get it closer to the 1:1 shape. After sanding off the window trim, I sanded the top of the opening to give more of a convex shape. Then, I added in pieces of styrene to the sides of the opening, sanded flush, & scribed out the new sides & corner radiuses with a needle chucked in a pin vise. Then, I start carving away the styrene with a motortool…. Cleaning up the corners…. Then sanding the inner edges. It still needs more fine tuning & a new trim line will have to be scribed, but the overall shape is there. Steve

VERY NICE Steve! i have one question.....how the hell did you hold the camera and do that? oh and another question.... how long did it take you to lay the roof down? not including sanding and filling yet to come.

Hee hee! I guess it took a few hours, maybe 4?? I can't really say for sure because I did a little each night. Marked out & scribed the cuts one night, cut a few the next, & glued things back together later. Steve
